Buy me a truck

I am looking around and trying to decide but would absolutely love the completely unbiased OT opinion on buying/owning a truck. ~sarcasm for those slow learners~
I would primarily would be using it as an everyday type truck but have a particularly unique (maybe not so much down here) need. The front of my neighborhood floods during any extended heavy rain event. We had one recently that had the flood water at the front entrance standing still for a good 48 hours due to poor drainage in the area. This area can get relatively deep and unless you had a full size truck you weren’t getting through.
So with that being said I would have considered a Tacoma or the like for the driving/commuting needs if not for the flooding potential nonsense and I am not willing to put my faith in city/parish government to resolve that problem anytime soon while I decide on what truck to buy.
So I need a full size truck, reliable, with comforts inside for myself since I will be in it a bunch and roomy enough for the family occasionally.
I will say that I had a Ram 1500 Big Horn rental recently and was very impressed with the interior and how it drove and handled. Not so sure about long term reliability with Ram these days but would like to hear thoughts.
I would prefer to keep the price under $40k if possible as I am poor but I know it is doable provided I don’t load up on too many options. Speaking of options why doesn’t Ram have running boards on any of their trucks? Can the dealer not add them if you want them added?
TL:DR - what full size truck should I look at for good reliability, nice interior and goodies, roomy and good for commute.

Tacoma is not a full size truck

You can easily get a F150 XLT, Chevy LT or Ram SLT for mid 30s or less. They'll all put running boards on it if they don't already come with them for a small fee

Have you priced a full sized truck lately? Maybe a 2019 since the 2020’s are on the lot.

I drive a 2013 Ram 1500 5.7L V8
144k repair free miles. Love it

I know. I was considering a Tacoma until I realized I needed a full size with the flooding issue.

You can get a nice truck of any brand for $40k.
They all have strong engines. Ford ecoboost is the strongest so F150 is the fastest truck if you care about speed. I would avoid the 5.0 V8. And don’t get a sunroof.
Tundra is sturdy and reliable. V8 is solid but thirsty. I get 15mpg at best in mine.
I don’t know much about the new GMs.
Rams sure look nice. I’ve heard complaints about the brakes and weak AC.
Nissan Titan is weird looking but seems like a good truck. Good warranty. Sales are slow so they might make a deal.

I have mostly driven Fords with a few GMC/Chevys over the last 40 years. I just bought a Ram 1500 Laramie. Aside from it being the cheaper option it is by far and away the nicest truck I’ve ever owned. I used to would never consider a Ram until a friend got one. Blows Ford and Chevy away. Made a believer out of me

Get a rebel flag for the back glass. Tie a noose to the back bumper. Make the truck nuts actually drag the road and throw sparks.

I bought one in 2017. You can get a STX F150 super crew for 32-33. You aren't getting a loaded one for that price but you can absolutely buy one new mid 30s or a little less.

Honestly, a Colorado/canyon. But not for roomy unless you’re an average or small guy.

Your only option is Tundra.

????? great engine - no turbo - decent MPG - loads of cruising and acceleration power - proven for years as a reliable power plant - so what are you talking about???

I've had 3 Rams and they were all fine vehicles. I bought a Ford last time just to try something else.
