Cheerleaders from North Stanly High School in North Carolina have been placed on probation for the rest of the year because they posed with a banner supporting President Donald Trump.

Members of the cheer squad had held up a banner reading “Trump 2020: Make America Great Again” during a home game on August 30.

quote:

“The North Stanly High School cheerleaders have been wrongly put on probation by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association for the rest of the football season because of holding up a Trump banner before a home game on 8-30-2019,” an event page supporting the students reads. “Please come out and help me show the school and the NCHSAA that freedom of speech is not dead. Please bring all your Trump and MAGA gear and lets throw our support behind the North Stanly High School cheerleaders.”

Imagine the outage if cheerleaders had been put on probation for posing with an Obama sign.

As long as they were not forced to do it by the school or any teachers or coaches and the cheerleaders did this of their own free will, what is the problem here?

This is suppression of protected speech guaranteed by the first amendment.

Then, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) put the squad on probation. However, both the high school and Stanly County School District said the probation did not mean the squad was suspended from cheering. "Neither Stanly County Schools nor North Stanly High School disciplined the cheerleaders for this action," a spokesperson from Stanly County Schools told CBS News via email. The spokesperson said the squad was not suspended and cheered at the September 13 game. However, the spokesperson said the sign violated a school board policy that prohibits the distribution of political campaign material at school events or school publications.

"This policy does not prohibit students from speaking their minds or engaging in protected First Amendment activities," the spokesperson wrote. "Because the cheerleaders were in uniform and were acting as representatives of the school, the display of the sign could be perceived as the school or school system endorsing a political campaign," the spokesperson continued. "For this reason, the only action Stanly County Schools has taken is to ask the cheerleaders not to display the sign again."

If the rules prohibit political themed signs during a athletic events, they broker the rules.

This is likely one of those we are not hearing the whole story things.

But I could be won't because the liberals are getting crazier by the day.

How a Kneeling Protest Divided a North Carolina County A new article looks at how a simple action—in which several Black cheerleaders at an area high school kneeled to protest racial injustice—illuminated the underlying problems in a community.

Clark, despite his own misgivings, defended his pupils’ right to demonstrate. “When we start down the road of ‘the other’—the other is wrong, the other is un-American, the other, the other, the other—where will we stop?” he asks. “There will be a day when we look back on this and think: What in the world happened to us?”

I’m sure they were disciplined by Marily “Que” Tucker, the commissioner of the North Carolina Athletic Association.

BS. If they had held a Obama sign the spokesperson would have applauded it

Is the legal term for which I'm searching called "precedent?"

Would the application of this rule been the same had cheerleaders posed with an Obama sign during his presidency?

I'm guessing no.

the spokesperson said the sign violated a school board policy that prohibits the distribution If that is the reason, I believe the school board is wrong because it requires "distribution" and the sign is not that.
