Maybe most of them did and drowned. Curious what kind of boat this was, a bunch of tourists or party goers, or was it a boat filled with migrants.

Yeah seems strange to have a boat with that many people out that time of the day.

I doubt it was an open boat. They were probably overwhelmed by smoke and unable to find their way to an exit.

Yeah, you rarely see the term “boat” used to describe a vessel carrying 30+ people.

Santa Cruz Island is part of the Channel Islands NP. I thought most of the charter boats were day trips in ferries.

Don't the great white's hang out around those islands. Tough call, eaten by shark or die in a fire.

So you don't like the term boat, which is already very general...so you pick an even more general term?

Let's just use 'craft'.

No...not general enough.

Buoyant object.

It's a noun.

Water is likely in the mid 60s, survivable for a while with a flotation device, but without one a good swimmer might last two hours, poor to mediocre swimmers might drown instantly because of the shock.

I believe I heard that the fire was out and they were pulling the buoyant noun off of rocks. It would seem that folks could have made it onto the rocks?

Idk, overnight, drinking (?), Confusion, panic... Fire

Who knows.. Sad.

People were sleeping below deck as the fire started around 3am above deck ... galley area ?? It was a 3-day scuba diving charter aboard The Conception with unlimited day and night dives, off the Channel Islands, specially San Miguel Island.

Appears they never had a chance based on the circumstances; likely dying of smoke inhalation - I can’t even imagine.

Boat details and specs
