Why Is Blackface Offensive?

Serious question. Was listening to the news this morning and heard about the Alabama governor doing a skit back in the 60s wearing blackface. Now people are calling for her to resign. Why is wearing blackface so offensive? I legit don't get it.

Everything is offensive. Therefore blackface is offensive.

Honest question? Are you a black man/woman that grew up before or during the Jim crow era? If not you won’t get it

Oh Jesus. Look, I get the whole "outrage culture is ridiculous", etc., thing. However, you'd have to be pretty ignorant to not understand this.

Bc some liberals decided that blackface is offensive

It really isn’t. Nothing is actually “offensive” you just have people who choose to claim they are “offended” in order to police the behaviour of others
Same thing with “cultural appropriation”. It’s the most bullshite term. As if any one culture has ownership of something. Because if that were so then only “white people” would get to use electricity, plastics, the internal combustion engine, etc.
It’s a moronic phrase that only exists to be wielded like a cudgel against the dominant paradigm without any self awareness

Honest question. You are willing to dig into every single person life from birth and hold them accountable?
How about we start with you?
How about we start with you?

Legit blackface is cartoonish looking and understandably offensive. Historically, it was quite racist.
Wearing modern makeup to dress up accurately as an uncontroversial black character for Halloween should not be offensive.

Usually the people screaming loudest about blackface aren’t black people who grew up in Jim Crow either.

Apparently we need to ban Al Jolson retroactively.

And this is the common sense that is lost on modern liberals searching for a cause.

What?
I’m saying if he didn’t grow up in a time when black face was commonly used as caricature of black people he wouldn’t understand why it’s offensive.

Yes, that is a good question. Why don't we ask Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and Ralph Northam the same question. Oh, wait a minute ....
