Jersey Shore Family Vacation: Mike Goes to Jail

Ive only watched this season on and off, but tonight's episode was really pretty stunning. I can't describe it, except that it almost felt a real life version of a Sopranos episode as the series neared its end. Ignoring the Maria stuff, those episodes had a very somber, closing tone to them where the family and characters felt different.
I honestly thought this was the finale, but it's wasn't.
The episode was mostly around Christmas, which added to the bizarre, yet strikingly sad and captivating moments. Mike goes to federal prison, Ronnie checks himself into a rehab center, Jenni's divorce goes public, Deena has her kid, and Snooki get pregnant again.
It's almost circle of life stuff....one or two lives going down the drain as others see cheer and happiness. The episode almost felt fictional, like a series was wrapping up and all character arcs were coming to a conclusion, but it was all real. Don't know, the whole thing just kind of hit me pretty hard. And that's pretty amazing considering how this show began ...amazing how life always kicks your arse, no matter who you are and the toll fame can take on some people.

May DVR this one then But the rest of the season has not been good. I was a huge fan of the show growing up but man this stuff is getting old like the cast

I forgot that we haven’t had a season long thread. It’s odd how tonight’s episode was S3E1, but the past month of new episodes were still a part of S2??
Since tonight was the “premiere,” I’m not sure I can watch a whole season centered around Ron’s idiocy while Sitch is in prison.
Mike should be out of prison in October, so we’ll probably get a new round of episodes this Spring that feature him.

It probably won't be nearly as good w/o Mike.
Since the reboot he has really carried the show. He really turned his life around too. Sucks he had to go to jail but he's had an extremely positive attitude about it and taking responsibility.

Fat Mike resembles Porky Pig in the face

Obviously the show isn’t as entertaining as the original run, but it’s been surprisingly good.

Compared to the horrible lip injections, Botox, fillers, and plastic surgeries all the other women on that show have had on their faces, her face is by far the best of the shore group.
Well, with the exception of Ronnie’s baby momma, but she is so bat shite crazy that she doesn’t count

Awesome post OP
Wife and I had similar feels watching the whole season honestly.
Mike is definitely good people. We legit got upset when they erroneously reported he was going away for two years
I think Mike always just wanted to be accepted and felt like the rest of the crew didn’t appreciate how integral he was to making them and the show as famous as they became. You could see it in the Italy blow up with Ronnie when he head butted the wall. He just was over being disrespected and hated by them when he was the main reason the show blew up.
I feel like he and Pauli’s are the only two that genuinely understand how lucky they are and thankful for the life that the show has given them.
Snooki and J Woww and even Vinny to an extent seem like they think they deserve the fame and would have been just as successful regardless, which is crazy.
Ronnie is too far gone to even be able to think in terms like that.
But Paulie and Mike are just living and honestly don’t seem all that different than who they’d be without the cameras. The others always seem to be acting or putting on a show.

I never thought of it this way, but it obviously makes total sense. By Italy, the show was basically the biggest thing on television and Mike (and to a lesser extent, Snooki) were the only 2 people any non-fan could name.
I always thought he was basically just having a substance-related breakdown in those years, which I guess he kind of was, but I would imagine the rest of the gang (except maybe Paulie) hating on him and thinking of him as a joke was driving him crazy.
Jenni is the worst. She's not a star. She's only stayed relevant on the show by getting into others perosnal lives and then yelling at them once they call her out on it.
Angelina I think is pretty grateful now as well. I feel like She always kind of got the joke that she was a joke.

Agreed, but I’d say paulie is up there as well. Snookie, paulie and Mike are celebrities. IIRC, when the show was in its first season or so, snookie was just as famous/infamous as Mike. They carried the show at first. At some point, paulie emerged as the second banana.
The situation is arguably the greatest reality star/personality of all time. Say what you want about the show, the dude was really charismatic and entertaining.

I remember thinking how hot JWOW was the first time I saw her and she has gotten uglier every time I’ve seen her since....and I’ve seen her a lot.

Yeah his substance abuse obviously played a big role there too for sure.
But I think even that was ultimately driven by his depression from being ostracized and outcast by the group he wanted love and respect from. He was using it as a mask and shield from what was ultimately driving his depression.
I think he early on he allowed The Situation to overtake Mike (and he relished it btw, he’s not some totally innocent victim), which is what the group was ultimately hating on. And when he was ready to go back to being Mike, they kept treating him like he was Sitch and punishing him for his actions back then, even though it probably felt like he was doing it as a character for the show in his mind.
The lines between show and reality were pretty easily blurred for them all I’d imagine.
The peace he seems to have found today is that he is and is accepted as Mike again. Paulie has been Paulie since day 1, and the others are more in their characters now imo, although the characters have changed somewhat (J Wow and Snooki being the overprotective moms, Ronnie the black sheep with issues, Vinny the comedian).

Agreed paulie has been the same since day 1, and vinny has been as well. Snookie and Jenny have just matured slightly as they’ve aged and become mothers. Ronnie has always been a meathead in a bad relationship.
Mike definitely changed the most. The first few seasons of family reunion have been interesting and I’ll continue watching.

Vinny got a tat sleeve and started a fake fist pumping club guy act after he got no attention in season 1. He's always been a littler hater bitch.

He’s the most normal/least guido. He’s just always been more reserved and shy than the rest. He was also the youngest on the show. I think it was him coming out of his shell as he got more comfortable the longer he was in the house.
The first episode he talked about fist pumping and beating up the beat, so I don’t think it’s an act. Keep in mind, he was selected to be on the show, so it’s not like he was some kid that just hung out in the library his whole life. There had to have been something there for the producers to select him; he just wasn’t an over the top charicature like Mike and paulie.
That said, he definitely rode mike and paulie’s coattails to get girls. He doesn’t have their natural charisma and personality.

in one of the first episodes of the show... when Jwoww and Pauly D hook up and you find out Pauly has a Prince Albert piercing... that was wild as hell
