The political, cultural, and economic divide in this country currently is urban/rural. Basically every state has the same dynamics if they have major urban and rural areas (Oregon, Washington, California, Pennsylvania are good examples)

An (obvious) great example of this is North Louisiana and South Louisiana. One really can't argue the disconnect between the two.

It’s not THAT different

Maryland. Mainland is like NYC, Philly, Boston, DC. The Eastern Shore (other side of Chesapeake Bay) is like a deep South agricultural area.

I understand the coastal areas of Mississippi differing from the rest of the state; however, how is Natchez any different, culturally speaking, than say a Jackson, Oxford, or Tupelo?

Northern Virginia and the rest of the state. It even goes beyond that. Northern Virginia, Tidewater area and the rest. The rest is pretty damned southern.

Say what? Baltimore is on the water. It's obvious you haven't been up towards Cumberland and out 68 towards Garrett County.

The OT discovers that large areas of land with arbitrary borders sometimes contain different types of people.

Tidewater is a little more like NOVA with military mixed in. A little. It's definitely not that southern feel like the I-81 corridor and the 64 west of Richmond area.
