I think there's more to it than that, there's some breakdown in America beyond welfare...this is just my observation, but I would bet the data supports, that illegal aliens and HB2 workers have clearly better material lives and overall well being than welfare people. So you can make no effort and have a shitty meaningless life or you can expend effort and have a drastically better life...what gives?

the unemployment is at 4.5. People obviously would rather do what they’re doing than work hard labor

Why do American s suck arse at work. Take no pride in anything and are lazy as hell. I'm not just talking about all the ebt Democrats either. Seems like the vast majority of Americans suck.
Because an entitlement mentality has infected a good portion of the US workforce. I guarantee you that this wasn’t an issue post WWII.

H2A labor I pay 11.50 an HR.
I provide housing with all amenities / direct TV/ internet, ...the works.
I also provide transportation. A work truck.
And I also pay for vacation for guys who have been with me for a couple of years.

It ain’t because we don’t want to pick your strawberries for $8 an hour. And who the frick wants to harvest sugar cane. That’s awful work.
If you, for whatever reason, find your self unskilled/low skilled and you can get a job in ag or O&G with a wrench or hammer in your hand, picking up trash, building board roads, baling hay, cutting cane, etc...which gives you some meaning for your life, plus a $$$ in your jeans to have some independence...why would you not take that job?

And maybe that's it...in a population you get 95.5/100 labor participation and 4.5 that are just broken people that can't get off their couch and out of their rat-traps for a better life. Maybe you can't really improve on that so you bring in Dominicans to harvest your cane.

Plus farm work has by far the highest rate of OSHA claims. It’s an absurd percentage. Sorry for getting my degree in engineering and working on commercial buildings. I guess I’m just a lazy American tapping away on my computer in 70 degree AC conditions. I need to step up my game.

Because it's easier to make no effort and collect a paycheck? You're trying to imply that all people place value on working and providing for themselves. That's just not the case with the welfare class. The only value they have is "frick you, I got mine."

Blah blah blah....... what you really mean is you like paying your employees very little..... and you’re getting worried.

I'm not talking about just farm labor. Government employees in my opinion are the worst. I would be terrified to drive over a new bridge built today. The " good enough for government work" mentality is the absolutely embarrassing. It seems like half the labor force is just here to collect a check.

I will work for 50 an hour a f-250, housing, a nitro boat bass boat, insurance, internet and 4 weeks paid vacation.

My point was that it's not a matter of a "living wage"considering you can materially improve your life based on how illegals live relative to the welfare bums. That these people are just the bottom of the barrel broken people - they're not impacted by illegal or legally imported seasonal labor.

Government workers don't actually build the bridges.

What's the labor participation rate?

Well of course they aren't. They have welfare. Which is my point.
Take away welfare and shite would change real fricking fast.

Govt themselves build bridges? Jesus wept. All that is contracted out to private work. Granted you’re right about one thing...public govt workers suck.

You're getting circular...or maybe I wasn't clear...for these bottom 3-4.5% you're not going to bounce them off the couch with more money or taking away money...even if you did they'd be the shittiest, constantly fired worker that might just end up homeless.
When I talk to people with direct contact to the field labor (I'm in O&G) the biggest problem they have with low end American labor is showing up on time and passing a drug test. Frac crews during the pre-2014 bust, during the boom were notoriously difficult to muster because once these guys got off a shift and paid they were gone - crack, meth, you name it. The illegal and imported labor wins because it shows up on time, it shows up drug free and it works a full day with no BS.

Why do American s suck arse at work.
People in other countries are often poor because their systems are too corrupt to allow for much upward mobility not because they are dysfunctional.

And working on a rig is up there in OSHA. I got a brain. Why would I waste that cranking a drill and hope it doesn’t blow me off the deck?
