They are horrifying. Everybody gets that.

But why are they happening? What is it about wielding a gun that drives these lunatics to terrorize groups of innocents?

A gun, even a scary assault rifle, is a very inefficient way to harm a large group of people.

As awful as it is to think, will the country becoming callous to these events make them go away?

No guidance, isolated lives, mental illness, a lack of self-worth, no respect for human life, and in many cases a radical ideology

There is no simple answer and many different ones at the same time.

Evil people are going to do evil things... Always have and they always will...

This country embracing evil has more to do with what you see happening than anything else but most will scoff at the thought of "evil"...

Least violent generation in human history

The world is a wonderful place and today is the best time to be alive. You are far safer today than at any point in human history. Don’t let emotions get in the way of reality.

His point is why a gun, why not a bomb or chemical agents or something more efficient against a group than an "assault rifle".

The people that commit the vast majority of all mass shootings and most other crimes have one thing in common, the father not present in the home.

This is a function of the breakdown in our society as a whole and until it is repaired nothing will change.

Teaching people from birth that nothing is their fault and someone else is to blame creates hopelessness and despondency, it is simply far easier to blame someone than sort yourself out.

It used to be the job of the father to teach tough love, hard work, and persistence but those values have been tossed to the wayside by the feminization of our society to its detriment.

Looks like you are getting good thoughtful responses. Don't let this morph into gun control. Those threads go in a nutty direction.

It's because of Fortnite.

Before that it was because of Call of Duty or Gears of War.

Before that it was because of Marilyn Manson or The Basketball Diaries.

and so on and so forth.....

One of the points, yes.

If the answer is just "evil does evil" then I would assume the goal would be to harm the largest number of people. It's something about pointing a gun at another person

Because this is a country of over 330 million people with a handful of them looking for their 15 minutes of fame - good or bad.

So you think that these will lessen as we become more callous toward them? I do, I just hate to think about it.

It's because they horrify and shock. Things that are horrifying and shocking get attention.

There are varying reasons that lead to them doing it, but never forget that the ultimate goal is attention.

Maybe it's truly mental health, or maybe it's because they are incel, or maybe it's because they hate society, or democrats, or republicans. In the end the only thing that matters to them is that they will get the attention that they so desperately crave because their murders will be used as political ammunition by both sides.

Why guns? because it maximizes the attention.

If you don't think it takes a special kind of evil person to point a gun at a kid and pull the trigger, then I do not know what to tell you...

A bomb is impersonal, shooting someone is only less personal than stabbing someone or literally choking the life out of them...

I totally agree. I'm just trying to see others opinion on an issue that those of us who are sane can never understand

Zero Tolerance: Kids are repressing their anger which is not emotionally healthy.
Narcotics: We are raising children on drugs that mess with their brain.
Lack of Discipline: Almost all forms of past discipline is now considered child abuse.
Broken Families: Many male kids today don’t have fathers to teach them how to handle things.
Media: Glorifies violence. The News, Movies, and games.

It’s probably a combination of all of the above.

Right.. and add in a society and culture that thinks The Flag, Country and Cops are a bad thing... Kids grow up playing video games all day where they shoot people...

Then the left says Japan has video games?

Well Japan has strict family traditions, Discipline. longer school years.. More family structure. etc.
