Starting from Vanilla to now. There's a lot to choose from now.

Let me preface by saying that I never ran anything high end instances from Pandoria to now. I'm almost ready to run heroic in BfA, so I haven't done a whole lot. I did like a few of the runs in Pandoria too. I'm going back now and solo'ing some of the old school stuff. Did Black Temple the other night since I didn't get to during BC. My guild wasn't quite at that level yet.

I'm gonna have to go with Karazhan. Nostalgia definitely plays into this for me. Just had so many good times in there back in the day. And it's amazing just how big Kara is. Place is huge. Plus, for some reason I like that it's so close to Stormwind. Makes it have a different feel. It's not on some other realm or world. It's next door.

Ulduar is up there too for me.

I'm 120 finally now after starting back up playing a couple of weeks ago. Stopped during Wrath.

I've already went back to Kara to look around. Also going for the Midnight mount. 0-3 now... I also need to get the mount from Nightbane on the timed run thing.

But yeah, Kara has some of the most interesting bosses and events. Plus Nightbane was a great encounter.

Fun bosses/events

was hardcore in Burning Crusade. Loved Tempest Keep.

that entire map had a cool feel to it. I remember going bonkers the first time we got Gruul. I was a damn healing pally, then went and respecced my Shaman to destro or whatever it was called and that put us over the edge. My Shaman was immediately my main after that night and I didn't look back. I never realized how less stressful raiding was when you weren't responsible for keeping people alive.

I actually give WoW credit for getting me through my last 2 years of college. Settled my arse down from barhopping 5x a week. Cut back on partying a lot when I had set raids 2 or 3 times weekly. We had a pretty hard 2.5 hour raid limit so I was in bed much more regularly. Still had a great time in college those last 2 years but kept at least one wheel out of the proverbial ditch that way

or Molten Core

Just absolute classics for the time spent in them and what they meant at the time. Everything kinda snowballs after that.

UBRS always was my favorite.

Love the orcs, Rend event was fun, and it was lore heavy.

Favorite dungeon: Deadmines

The setting and the characters in the first dungeon were the best IMO. I loved the whole Defias questline leading up to the dungeon.

Raid: Blackwing Lair

BWL was so fun because it was so challenging. That one raid destroyed so many hardcore guilds on my server.

I was a big Vanilla player if you couldn't notice.

ZG and Karazhan were our jams. We weren't hardcore in the least, but the one time we got the ZG tiger bridle to drop, i rolled a 97 and got it.

Good times.

I barely raided so I don't have tons of raid experience to compare it to, but 10 manning Stratholme at a Retribution Paladin in Vanilla were some of my favorite memories. The setting made me feel like I was fulfilling my class's purpose of smiting evil, and with 10 people it was easy enough that groups didn't mind taking a gimped class like Ret pally

I also really liked most of the Time walking dungeons.

Dungeon: BRD Nothing has been attempted on such a scale since. It legitimately felt like a real city. The atmosphere was great. The quests were great (Marshall Windsor ftw). The little touches like learning to smelt and traveling to the Black Forge/Anvil were great. I can’t say enough good things.

Honorable Mentions: SFK, The Magisters’ Terrace, Scarlet Monastery

Raid: Ulduar It has to be Ulduar. Once again, the setting and scale were amazing. The introduction of hard modes was fantastic. The variety of encounters was exciting. I wish they never made the Trial of Crusaders/Argent Tourny a thing and just let us enjoy Ulduar longer.

Honorable Mentions: Kara, ICC, Zul’Aman

Man, there are a lot of good ones.

My top 5 raids:
1. Blackwing Lair
2. Karazhan
3. Original Zul'Gurub
4. Molten Core
5. Onyxia's Lair

Honorable Mentions:
Ice Crown Citadel
Ulduar
Throne of Thunder

Top 5 Dungeons:
1. Undead Stratholme
2. Zul'Farrak
3. Scholomance
4. Upper Blackrock Spire
5. Blackrock Depths

Honorable Mentions:
Grimrail Depot
The Deadmines

Yes, all 5 of my dungeons and most of my raids are from Vanilla.

I enjoyed going through and picking my top 5 of each though, brought back good memories.

Eternal Palace in BFA is actually pretty good IMO. It's my favorite raid from the past couple expansions so far.

It’s hard NOT to be Vanilla-heavy on dungeons. At least up until my last xpack in MoP they had been steadily trending downward in length and immersion (difficulty is more varied).

Now don’t get me wrong, there were days when all I had the time and desire for was a Violet Hold speed run, but I think a marathon like BRD with its commensurately awesome potential rewards (Ironfoe, Hand of Justice, etc.) brought a much needed different progression path to the game.

Heck, just the need to farm rare crafting recipes and make alchemy lab/Black Forge/Black Anvil runs kept these dungeons relevant and useful soooooo much longer than present-day dungeons which become largely obsolete after the first month or two of the expansion (beyond the occasional late-game catch up gear), and that’s a real shame.
