I’m going to be setting up some wyze cams outside my house and will be powering them through the attic. Obviously hard wiring them in would be best, but the come with power cables with regular 110 plugs. Am I going the burn my house down if I run an extension cord from an outlet in my attic to the wyze cams?

Not a good idea. If you havent already bought them I would look at some other cameras. There are several that are powered by coax cable that carries both the video from the camera and power to it.

There are also ones that do this with ethernet.

PoC and PoE - power over coax/power over ethernet

I already bought the cameras and would like to stick with them as I already have several inside that work great and it would be nice to all be on the same system.

If the extension cords won’t work I’ll invite an electrician buddy over for a 12 pack and have him give me a hand.

I'd do that. Extension cords running in a attic like that are a major fire hazard.

If they use ethernet or coax, you may can buy something like this that will work with them and use coax ie ethernet anyway.

LINK

That's not exactly what you'd need per se... but you get the idea.

If you use extension cords in your attic and there is a fire. You can bet big money the insurance company will trace fire to said cords and deny your claim. You want be able to prove otherwise.

Would work, but not a good idea at all. Hard wire it in.

Why is it a major fire hazard?

The wires are easily damaged by kinking or stressful positioning. And on longer cords, there is more wire resistance, which generates heat and can eventually cause a fire. Add to that the heat of an attic, it’s a dangerous situation

Extension cords are typically stranded wire vs the solid wire found in typical home wiring.

I have tv cords that run up through the wall cap and plug into a surge protector resting on the floor of the attic, which is then plugged into an outlet/light fixture in the attic. Is this okay?

Stranded wire is also used in home wiring. It has better flexibility. Go cut open any appliance wiring

Against fire code to use extension cords as a means of permanent power.

Connections in walls and attics should be contained in a electrical box. If I was you I would get a whole panel surge protection breaker. Then install and outlet right behind your Tv. They do sell surge proctection outlets as well. But why not just surge protect the whole house???

Open connections have the risk of sparking and starting a fire. And cords for TVs and extension cords arent shielded and rated for running through walls and attics.

Here's a link to a surge proctection breaker. LINK

Hell no. Heat will break the cords down over time.
