How can kids be that costly? I rarely went to the doctor as a child besides for shots and things like that

Edwards, a Democrat in a Republican-leaning state, noted in his speech that his administration backed a bill that ultimately failed in the Legislature to mandate work requirements for able-bodied Medicaid recipients.
Found this is a recent Advocate article and thought it was interesting. How did this bill fail in our conservative legislature?

It's all the children. Getting a "medical card" for a kid is pretty easy.
I used to work with a guy that would work as a contractor rather than go on company time just because was able to keep his kids on SNAP and didn't have to pay for their insurance. He actually quit the job once because the company was doing away with contractors and was forcing him to hire directly on. These are the people they should be going after and not the working family who may be a few hundred dollars above the limit each month. I am more supportive of helping someone who is barely scratching by but is working their arse off to provide for their family than these leaches who refuse to work or constantly play the system.

Getting Medicaid as an adult, without disability, is tough.
Yeah, except getting disability is pretty damn easy.

Unfortunately getting diagnosed with a disability is easy.

Adults do estate planning so they can have all their assets in trusts or already given to their kids so when/if they get on medicaid they won't have to pay for it ever.
