A Justice Department official told former Special Counsel Robert Mueller that his upcoming testimony to House lawmakers "must remain within the boundaries" of the public, redacted version of his report, in a letter obtained by Fox News on Monday evening.
quote:
The letter, obtained exclusively by Fox News, signed by Associate Deputy Attorney General Bradley Weinsheimer, states: “Dear Mr. Mueller: I write in response to your July 10, 2019 letter concerning the testimonial subpoenas you received from the House Judiciary Committee (HJC) and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI).
“Your letter requests that the Department provide you with guidance concerning privilege or other legal bars applicable to potential testimony in connection with those subpoenas."
quote:
After stating the decision to testify is Mueller's to make, the letter continues: "But the Department agrees with your stated position that your testimony should be unnecessary under the circumstances. The Department generally does not permit prosecutors such as you to appear and testify before Congress regarding their investigative and prosecutorial activity.
quote:
"Should you testify, the Department understands that testimony regarding the work of the Special Counsel's Office will be governed by the terms you outlined on May 29 -- specifically, that the information you discuss during your testimony appears in, and does "not go beyond," the public version of your March 22, 2019 report to the Attorney General or your May 29 public statement."
quote:
It continued: "Finally, any testimony must remain within the boundaries of your public report because matters within the scope of your investigation were covered by the executive privilege, including information protected by law enforcement, deliberative process, attorney work product, and presidential communications privileges.

Well duh.
Bill Barr is not fricking around when it comes to the DOJ policy against disparaging uncharged individuals.
Comey disobeyed that policy when he revealed to the world that he was investigating Trump and his campaign in March 2017 during testimony on the house.

This is going to be the boringest inquiry of all time.
Media networks will hype it up big time and all pre-empt their daytime schedules to air it live, and we will get nothing but "No comment" and "I can't comment on an ongoing DOJ investigation" over and over again.
It will be like that time Washington D.C. all went to bars to hear Comey's congressional testimony that one day thinking it was going to be the end of Trump.

Hmmmm,an admission that there is a lot to hide.
But we shouldn't be concerned about that.

Where in the DOJ letter does it admit that there is a lot to hide?
Also, what is being hidden?

I think the likes of Jim Jordan will try to ask tough questions but they will all be deflected or shut down with "Can't comment on that"
The real person who needs to be questioned is Weissman

This will cause a melt. The rabid idiots on the networks will spin headlines like "Barr warns Mueller to restrict testimony".
When in reality, it would appear Mueller asked for guidance on what he can discuss. DOJ says he can publicly discuss the report he made public. These are the facts Mueller himself made available, anything else brings the question, why wasnt that in the report.

Here is what will happen
Democrat: "Mr. Mueller, do you believe Trump committed any crimes"
Mueller: "I am not at liberty to speculate"
Democrat: "Mr. Mueller, do you believe Trump should be impeached"
Mueller: "This is not my place to speculate"
Democrat: "Nothing Further."
Media: "BREAKING: MUELLER REFUSES TO SAY WHETHER OR NOT TRUMP COMMITTED A CRIME. THE FACT HE DID NOT DENY TRUMP COMMITTED A CRIME IS A BAD LOOK FOR THE PRESIDENT"
