There isn’t a single museum the average American could name along the lines of a smithsonian let alone a truly world renowned place like the louvre etc. try leaving Texas for once in your life.

As far as museums, the World War 2 museum is one of the best museums in the country

How many museums do you think the average American can name?

Look -- you have a point. Houston's museums are not "world renowned." But they are world class. Take a look at MFA Houston's collections and tell me otherwise. And btw -- I say this as someone who has lived in Europe and has visited plenty of world class museums, including any you could probably name off the top of your head.
