I think that should read: “i’m going to need you to go ahead and play 82 games this season...”

Yeah, because the arena named for a business that makes office products is much better.

I agree I've never really thought the arena was bad looking. It could use something facing the CCC but otherwise it looks pretty damn good to me.

Put more glass around the outside
Add water fountains and a lazy river(bayou) with a Disney Frontierland look to it.
Put live pelicans within the Exhibit

They are updating food service along with Superdome renovations. New kitchen area across the street to service both. Centerplate is out. There could be a new structure to connect the buildings.
Also I read they were getting rid of the parking lots on the SKC side of the dome and opening up champion square areas to include SKC. Building more outdoor space - a surrounding park with vendors and monitors, where fans can watch games outside.
On a side note, I heard an interview with Kyle France of LSED on Friday and he was talking about new security regulations by NFL, saying the original architects never envisioned 21st century challenges, and suggesting the parking lots around the dome were a serious concern. I think they all might go.
I like the parking, but Imagine being in the finals 5 years from now and having our own version of Toronto’s Jurassic Park outside. New Orleans would show up for that like they did for Zion draft on Fulton.

Why?
Well it’s already one of the older arenas in the league. Maybe I’m wrong but it’s hard to imagine it being still viable 10-15 years from now.

do you think it’s going to fall down?
it’s a round building with a court, a roof and seats...
the dome opened in 1975 and has been renovated multiple times. There is nothing about the blender that can’t be updated as needed
what about that is hard to imagine?

Yeah, I don't understand where his sense of urgency is coming from. Again, most teams want new arenas because it allows them to create new revenue streams. Add areas where they can charge fans more for things that often have very little to do with watching the game. From the average fan's perspective that's there to watch the Pels play, the upgrade they made to the Jumbotron is way more useful than any "upgrade" that could only happen with a new building.

Maybe he just really wants the swim up pool bar.

Oh I don’t know, 30 years of watching owners in every sport agitating for and getting new stadiums/arenas in just about every single circumstance, and the ones who renovated instead did so only when the stadium/arena in question had significant historical value like Lambeau, Fenway, or MSG. It’s easy to see the Superdome falling in with that group.
But tSKC is not the Superdome and it’s already on the older side by NBA arena standards. The lease ends in 2024 and we have no idea what Gayle’s perspective on this is. Of course they could do some renovations and extend the life a bit, but what then? Do you really expect the Pelicans to be playing in this arena in 2040? It’s worth at least asking the question.

if they built a new one tomorrow it would be 20 years old in 2040.
I also might be dead by 2040 and Gayle benson will definitely be.
I think we can table this discussion for a decade

The arena is fine as is. The only real negative is that it's already the smallest arena in the league and any further reductions in seating capacity for special viewing areas will further reduce capacity. I'd also like to more leg room in the lower bowl seats.
The exterior of the SKC can easily be changed as other NBA tams have shown. If they're gonna do the expansion of Champions Square, it could be really nice.

There was a survey that came out several months back where 40% of kids today would rather watch someone play a video game of a sport than watch the actual sport being played. As ridiculous as that sounds I bet that number only gets higher as time goes on and the world changes more. In 2040 the NBA might only exist in eSports form.

I think a lot of the issues stem from being dwarfed by the Superdome and that it was built rather hastily to get the team from Charlotte. If there were ever to be a new arena built, I wouldn’t mind if it were at Charity footprint across Poydras. Wouldn’t mind seeing the seats changed out and more uniform. Games could be played with theatre lighting similar to Lakers to mask some of the inefficiencies.

the blender was already four years old when the hornets relocated

Honestly their location is one of the best parts of the Dome and the Arena
Easy access to restaurants, hotels and bars
Compared to some of these places build out in the middle of no where.

quote:That convenient location definitely helps NO land special events (all star games, Super Bowls, College Football Playoff Finals, Wrestlemania, etc) because the actual event plus all the fan fests/parties/related events are all so close to each other and the hotels/restaurants.

Yep, honestly the dome is probably never moving, will just be renovated again after this current one in 15-20 years.
Only place arena would move is if they torn down the garage next door and used that area plus the surface lot that buses mainly park in to build a new arena. then tear down the old SKC and use it for ????
Plus I'm waiting on the BR/NOLA rail to eventually get built in 20 years and the associated elevated walkway and people mover that will get you from the train to the dome/arena in 5 minutes after getting of the train!
