In my lifetime

1. Matthieu (I don’t understand how this is even debatable. Should have won the heisman)
2. PP7
3. Adams
4. White
5. Delpit

And to be completely frank if Delpit has a really good season this year he will probably be #2. He is fricking nuts. His instincts are off the charts.

overlooking some LB's of the last 10 years is a big mistake.

I wish we'd seen TM7 for one more year.

He was getting better and better.

Honey Badger was the greatest player in LSU history, let alone the best defensive player.

I get that I was just stating my case for Delpit. They play different positions but I think Delpit has instincts just below the level of TM7 but is better at his actual position.

Also, check this out. Grant Delpit is a fricking animal and if he continues down the path he's on, will be in rarefied air in Tiger lore.

Grant Delpit as a SOPHOMORE:
Solo tackles - 46
Total tackls - 74
TFL - 9.5
Sacks - 5
Int - 5
Passes Def - 9
FR - 1
FF - 1

Jamal Adams as a JUNIOR:
Solo tackles - 42
Total tackles - 76
TFL - 7.5
Sacks - 1
Int - 1
Passes Def - 4
FR - 1
FF - 1

Are we talking about strictly playing defense? Some of TM7’s most iconic plays are on special teams (fumble recovery for TD against Oregon, punt returns against Arky and Georgia). A lot of others were him blitzing or making plays on the ball on running plays or after the receivers caught the ball.

I am not saying this to downgrade him and I think TM7 is the best overall playmaker in LSU history or at least in modern history but there have been better guys at playing their respective position than TM7 was a corner. PP7, Claiborne, and Greedy were better corners than him.

Visions of Glen Dorsey pushing auburn OG around with his pinky come to mind.

Came to post the Kentucky strip sack. The most impressive football play I've witnessed live. He did it with a feel for the game that won't be replicated. So in tune with the moment that he timed the snap without showing any intent. Roaming the line as if he's adjusting coverage and explodes through to strip the qb recover the ball and score, with no wasted motion. Lots do it with skill, very few do it with a 6th sense. Had he played his junior season here he would be the undisputed LSU GOAT.

TM7 is #1.

But man barely any mention of Dorsey in this thread. Only the most decorated player in terms of individual awards.

If Delpit has another solid season he might be giving Adams a run for his money

I'd argue Delpit is better RIGHT NOW

In Delpit's two years at LSU he already has more sacks (+3), Passes Defended (+3), Interceptions (+1) and forced fumbles (+1) than Adams had in three seasons at LSU. Delpit is only 4.5 short of Adams in career tackles for loss (which he will likely get this season).

Both are tremendous players. Adams gets the love because of that AND the fact that he was such vocal and emotional player. Delpit is a little more subdued, but just about every statistical category says he is BETTER than Adams

Jamaal was great. But Tm7 changed games by himself

Tyrann won both the GA game in the SEC championship and also set up the asswhooping that ensued with the early potential blowout to Arkansas in '11. Arkansas jumped out to a 14-0 or 17-0 lead and TM ran a punt back and then stripped and recovered a couple of fumbles or a pic or a combination of them both. He was a monster through and through.

JA is great, but you were not watching LSU football if you don't think TM is the best defensive player.
