“In 1990, obese adults made up less than 15 percent of the population in most U.S. states. By 2010, 36 states had obesity rates of 25 percent or higher, and 12 of those had obesity rates of 30 percent or higher,” according to Harvard University’s School of Public Health.
“While U.S. obesity rates have, overall, stayed steady since 2003, the rates are still rising in some groups, and disparities persist: Non-Hispanic black, Hispanic, and Mexican American adults have higher rates of obesity than non-Hispanic white adults,” the school added.

It's gotten to where a slim person stands out in the crowd instead of the other way around.

I wonder if the BMI chart has changed over the years. I don’t consider myself fat. I’m probably more average plus a bit. Dad bod kind. BMI at my height (6’) says I need to weigh 140-180. 140? That is Ethiopian thin. That’s the Optimal. 180 hasn’t been seen since my junior year of high school and every yearly physical days I’m as healthy as can be. Trust me. I could stand to lose a few pounds but I have an entirely different definition of obese than this article.

That's because our obese society has completely changed the way we view thin, optimal, and fat.
