the new device, called Jetson, uses a technique known as laser vibrometry to detect the surface movement caused by the heartbeat. This works though typical clothing like a shirt and a jacket (though not thicker clothing such as a winter coat).
quote:
Everyone’s heart is different. Like the iris or fingerprint, our unique cardiac signature can be used as a way to tell us apart. Crucially, it can be done from a distance.
quote:
An individual’s cardiac signature is unique, though, and unlike faces or gait, it remains constant and cannot be altered or disguised.
quote:
“I don’t want to say you could do it from space,” says Steward Remaly, of the Pentagon’s Combatting Terrorism Technical Support Office, “but longer ranges should be possible.”
quote:
One glaring limitation is the need for a database of cardiac signatures, but even without this the system has its uses. For example, an insurgent seen in a group planting an IED could later be positively identified from a cardiac signature, even if the person’s name and face are unknown. Biometric data is also routinely collected by US armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, so cardiac data could be added to that library.

I put some scotch tape over my laptop camera so I’m pretty sure the govt can’t do shite to me now

All of these different ways in which each of us is absolutely distinct, and the powers still try to force us into a collectivist society.

Atrial Fibrillation finally has an upside.

I can see the argument that the guy in a crowd with the heart rate of 180 is the guy that you need to be focusing on because he might be the guy about to suicide the frick out of himself, but I can also see the counterargument that maybe the guy in the crowd with that heartrate just found out that the redhead with gorgeous green eyes and a great body that he's wanted for weeks just told him she wants him too.
One's a terrorist getting targeted. The other's a really excited dude getting a chance with his dream girl.

The thing about the terrorist deal is most are happy/willing to die so they may actually be calm with setting off a bomb. While I understand the reasoning behind this type of technology I feel it wouldn't solve much.

So this guy is off sub duty and on cardiology duty now. I just hope my heart doesn't sound like a caterpillar drive.

I’m sure they can cause cardiac arrest also by manipulating their little machine.

Lasers to read your heartbeat, and yet...

This is to identify people by using biometrics. It has nothing to do with trying to find a terrorist with a high heart beat.
