Once Platinum Plus closed, Memphis has absolutely nothing.

I'd go to Graceland for sure. Crazy that Elvis' TV room was such a big deal back in the day.
People in stores that sold TV's, Elvis' buddies at Graceland, and those at the White House were the only folks that could watch every TV station known to man, at the same time. Guess deciding which one to have the sound up on was The Big E, and the President's decision.

STAX is awesome. Very nice museum that looks just like the old studio. Lots of equipment used on the original recordings. Royal Studios is also right down the road where Al Green recorded all of his hits. Willie Mitchell’s son owns it now and let me walk through there. Incredible experience.

We live in Memphis, about .2 miles from Central BBQ. I typically recommend:
-Cenfral BBQ or The BBQ Shop
-Bass Pro Pyramid overlook
-Shelby Farms is awesome if you have kids, bring them to the high ropes course
-Mud Island Park
-STAX museum is great but in the serious hood
-Beale is okay if you want to walk up and down
-Peabody for the ducks of course, on Thursdays they have rooftop parties
-Memphis has a ton of downtown rooftop or basement bars. Some upscale, some grungy and local. We’re grungy folks but a quick google “near me” will help you here
-Flight is delicious
-Rendevouz is just about the worst BBQ you can get
-Pink Palace and Elvis’s House
You won’t have any issues with crime unless you’re seeking it out. Having previously lived in Nola, we feel much safer here.

Haha literally did this driving home from the CWS a couple of weeks ago. I guess we also walked down Beale Street for like 30 min, but it was in and out. Seen all I needed to see.
Central was delicious though.

It catches a lot of grief on this board, but my family has always had a good time in Memphis. My parents love it, and just took another trip there in April.
Most decent sized cities are going to have their problems, but you'd almost have to try to not have fun in any of them for a weekend.

Memphis is terrible. Had to spend a couple of months there for work. Have stayed both downtown and out towards Germantown. Did everything mentioned in this thread but Graceland and Stax. Turning the pyramid into a Bass Pro is their crowning achievement. Rendezvous and Central are both trash if you’re used to BBQ in a place like Texas. Would not recommend. Tennessee needs to burn the city down and never speak of it again.

Lived there for 5 years and moved an hour away. Only time I go to that crap show is when I fly out of MEM.
If you go to Graceland go straight to Graceland. Don’t take any side road sightseeing tours.

I was there Father’s Day weekend just a few weeks ago. Central BBQ had really good ribs, at least for restaurant ribs anyway. They’ve also got a really awesome hobby shop with a HUGE selection of scale models.
Other than that though, it’s pretty much a shithole.

Tour Sun Records and Stax.
Graceland
If you like zoos, Memphis has a great one.
Anyone recommending Rendezvous has no idea what they’re talking about. Go to Central.

That’s where we went. Parking is a bitch. Place was packed but they still got the food out quick and service overall was good. I had a half slab of ribs. As I said above they were really good for restaurant ribs. My wife and son both had pulled pork (I think sandwiches if I remember correctly) and it was decent. But overall, it was good restaurant BBQ.

Has anyone toured the Gibson Guitar Factory?

Central BBQ was OK to meh IMO.
The cotton museum was pretty cool but i'd guess boring for most.

Sure. Graceland, Sun Studio, Stax Records, Beale Street, The Memphis Zoo, The Civil Rights Museum, Mud Island, Overton Park, The Peabody, tons and tons of barbecue.
Perfect place for a long weekend.

Texas BBQ sucks compared to Memphis. I almost hope that was a joke you were making.

It's closed. The guitars are built in Nashville.

I go there on day trips for ribs every so often, it's okay for a short visit, but it doesn't take too long to see what there is to see, and get tired of it
