On this day in 1776, the United States voted to declare independence from Great Britain

243 years ago today, the Lee Resolution was passed and a free United States was declared.
"Resolved, That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.
That it is expedient forthwith to take the most effectual measures for forming foreign Alliances.
That a plan of confederation be prepared and transmitted to the respective Colonies for their consideration and approbation."

It is not perfect. But it laid the ground work for the greatest country to ever exist to come to pass. A country which has never stopped improving in the long term and is by far the best place for the most diverse amount of people to come and make an honest living. I will go to my grave believing in this country.

They can take away the Declaration of Independence but our forefathers’ song “God Bless the USA” will live on forever
