Yes. He does.

He can protect himself, clearly, as we can see here:

YouTube

He moves, he seems to have a pretty advanced presence in the pocket, and he can take off when he has to. But those are all things it’s nice to have. How much of that is a good offensive line?

We’ve watched tiger football. We know. Coverage breaks down sometimes, especially on the exterior of the line.

So how much can he do next year, assuming just a little improvement and with better backs and receivers? The answer is: a lot.

His release is a touch higher than I’d like, but it’s fast as hell, and he can generally put the ball where he wants it. Another season on his feet should help a lot with that. Playing third string quarterback in high school doesn’t teach you the things he’s learned, but it does tell me that there’s a sense you can only really gain in this kind of offense by doing it. He’ll be really comfortable by the time he plays. The offensive line isn’t going to be dominant. The difference between this year and ones past is that Joe can step up into the pocket comfortably, set that big frame, and let a great pass loose.

A few more thoughts: This is bonding time. He knows that. He’ll spend it with his receivers and line. There will be interceptions this season. No, this doesn’t mean the line will be bad. Just that Joe has the skill to work around deficiencies in games where he needs to. Yes, I think we win nine or more games.

Worst title of all time. No shite he needs protection. All quarterbacks do. And his release is average btw, not that fast.

Otherwise great post I agree.

Dwayne Haskins was the #15 pick in the NFL Draft........y’all need to do some research......Joe “fricken” Burrow gave that dude everything he wanted for the starting QB job at OSU.......

Joe Burrow will be a PRO. LUCKY to have him.

Obvious is obvious here, but with the playcalling that they're talking about doing this year, the protection up front should be worlds apart from last year. Not only will it allow Burrow to get rid of the ball quicker, but when you do decide to run a long developing play action pass, the defense won't know it's coming every time. The opposing defensive front 7 is going to be off balanced more this coming season rather than being shot out of a cannon on every snap. That's the theory at least.

Buckeye Jeaux doesn't need protection. Teams need protection from him. #40heismans

Why do we need to pump this, he's a good college QB. I look at pro QBs and I look at Joe and don't really see it.

He was actually released last year. LINK

He is on the practice squad (not the active roster) and now they have Stidham so even remaining on that is unlikely. Good luck to the young man.

The coaching staff is about equally divided on whether to protect the QB next year.
Grimes/ Clegg's theory seems to always have been that its not really important.

Burrow is going to surprise alot of people. He pushed Haskins, a number 1 draft pick, for the starting spot. In fact, a few thought he won the job. Don't forget that he had a very short time to learn the offense and personnel last year before jumping right into games. He will have had plenty of time now, plus adding some wrinkles into the offense. It is very important that he's protected, but a diverse offense will help alot.

He, like every other QB in the game needs protection.
He has to have a clean pocket to step up into on his throws and he needs the DL's hands down on the screens.
Can he make a play on his own? Yes, but if he's asked to do that to often we won't like the results.

Question: Air. Should we breath it?

Answer: Yes.

Well I disagree. Joe has a lot of tools, AND a huge advantage in that he is football smart. I could easily see burrow being drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round if he has a good year. He is better than etling, and even he was drafted.
