You don’t spend money on travel, hotel, and tickets obviously

And that’s fine

B/c that’ll be me too when the net gets beyond halfway down the dugout

You wouldn’t bring your child boating w/o a life jacket. Get behind the net or far enough away that you feel safe

If your kid gets hit, you’re liable. You are at a sporting event. There’s already a ton of reasons to stay home and watch on TV like you do.

Let’s see what happens

It's never mentioned anything about a unicorn on an MLB ticket, nor would it ever do that. This might be the most idiotic statement in this thread.

I actually attend a few games a year in different parks. I would hate to see nets every where. shite is already expensive. Last thing I want is to have my view obstructed

Know how I know you were never in the best seats in house?

Cause you’d know the net doesn’t obstruct their views.

Nets don’t onstruct the views of the home plate seats because they are looking perpendicular to them. The sears down the line will be viewing at a more diagonal orientation relative to the netting and will be more of an obstruction.

To be fair, you can also use looser/wider spaced netting down the line as the ball isn’t hitting it straight on either.

After analyzing this I’m going to say my mind has been changed on the matter .I did not expect this. I’m in with extending the netting. Just like the games I’ve been to in Japan and the glass on a hockey rink. Way to many people are being grievously injured and there is an easy fix. Downvote away.

I’m not a big “would someone think of the children” guy but for fricks sake is this a completely non invasive, cheap and simple solution if there ever was one.

It’s not turning lives upside down and costing billions to accommodate an obscure risk... it’s an albeit rare but obvious situation with catastrophic outcomes and the only objection is really “but that’s not how it’s always been.”

We don’t need some government mandate but any team not making the swap seems crazy to me. The nets got to save money in the end and doesn’t hurt the fan experience

Nearly 70 million people per year attend a ball game in MLB alone, how many people have died?
Thousands play football without injury yet when tragedy occurs we are forced to reevaluate our priorities regarding the sport and its effects on health. Many Nascar drivers survived accidents but deaths and serious injuries forced them to improve safety standards. Basketball players likely played with underlying heart conditions or even with full awareness of them until someone died on the court, and the league had to change policy.

Things change and events alter our perspective on what’s appropriate. An invisible net down the baselines is not something an objective observer would argue against, and feels like some sort of virtue signaling for a political agenda to so adamantly oppose.

Bloomberg study said between 1500-2500 people are injured by foul balls in MLB each year, but let's wait until someone dies.

invisible net
It's definitely not invisible.

I've sat at the end of the home dugout at Minute Maid, and, from that vantage point, the net plainly obstructs the fan's view towards home plate. It was particularly obtrusive for me when compared to viewing the rest of the field from that angle. Maybe having the whole view netted will make it less obvious, but from my limited perspective, the netting was far from "invisible."

IMO, MLB will mandate full netting in the near future. It'll be just another item in the long list of things MLB has done to impair the fan experience.

FWIW, when I take my young kids to the game, we sit behind the netting exclusively. It sucks that there are parents without forethought to choose more appropriate seats for their kids.

He's right about that. A few of the wannabe Chicagoans from Louisiana were embarrassing themselves in the last net thread.

It sucks that it even needs to be a consideration.

Yeah, the “consideration” being going to the game at all.

If this is all it takes to "ruin the fan experience", you fools don't like baseball nearly as much as you like to act.

ETA - Nevermind the ads everywhere, $10 beer, and jumbotrons everywhere. Nah, it's that faint netting that's going to ruin it.

Not sure what you did with your family, but we got some items signed and some interaction from players with the kids. Always got there when the gates opened.

A couple of signed balls and programs over the years.

You’ve probably been once or twice, no kids, or kids that you could give a two shits about, but that’s your business

That's easily workable. You could raise/lower them.

That won’t happen

And for me personally now with my kids almost out of school, my only concern is line of sight

I used to care about foul balls and the other etc’s, but my best days going to games are behind me

I’ve been to 2 of the last 3 WS and will go to a few more, with seating not affected by net views.

I’ve had a life dedicated to following the game, and I have no interest in spending money to be there behind netting. I don’t think I’m alone in my thoughts. Money will be the deciding factor.

Let’s see what happens

I feel sorry for the kid having the stupidest parents in the USA. Who brings a 2 year old to the game and sits there? I mean the kid doesn't even have an attention span to grasp wtf is going on and the parents didn't protect or catch the ball? Idiots.
