Since I don't think our timeline is right now for competing, I doubt we are going for any big FAs. With our 30 million in cap space, I imagine we are going to trade a bad contract into that space and pick up some more assets. I threw this list together of bad contracts for players either not living up to the pay or players on cap strapped teams.

I updated the list based off of Baron's suggestions on who we could target:

Bad contracts:

Kevin Love - 4 years, 120 million
Andrew Wiggins - 4 years, 120 million
Chris Paul - 3 years, 120 million
Blake Griffin - 3 years, 100 million
Gordon Hayward - 2 years, 66 million
Steven Adams - 2 years, 53 million
Nicholas Batum - 2 years, 52 million
Tim Hardaway - 2 years, 38 million
Dante Exum - 2 years, 19 million
Kris Dunn - 2 years, 12 million
Danilo Gallinari - 1 year, 22.5 million
Kent Bazemore - 1 year, 20 million
Tyler Johnson - 1 year, 19 million
Evan Turner - 1 year, 19 million
Jeff Teague - 1 year, 19 million
Tristan Thompson - 1 year, 18 million
Reggie Jackson - 1 year, 18 million
Andre Iguodala - 1 year, 17 million
Marvin Williams - 1 year, 15 million
Ian Mahinmi - 1 year, 15 million

Decent players on cash strapped teams:

Jonathan Isaac - 3 years, 22 million
Malik Monk - 3 year, 15 million
Josh Richardson - 2 year, 20 million
Andre Roberson - 1 year, 10 million
Moe Harkless - 1 year, 11 million

Teams over the cap to target:
OKC, Miami, POR, GSW, DET

Teams on the edge looking to make room for FA:
LAC, CHA, ORL, PHI, MIL

If pels are going that route they shouldn’t take on a bad contract that’s more than 2 years...Dante exum is a prime target...not a massive contract and could squeeze a future first from Utah that could wind up being a high pick down the road

But didn't we just dump a short term bad contract?

I would like to get Ian Mahinmi or Jabari Parker from the Wizards for a future first...they can protect it, but we all know they are going to suck for the next 5 years.

Lets get this over with....

Of all those, Love fits us the best as far as style of play and need.
120 million is a large pill to swallow. And injuries.....although I think a decent bit of that is Cavs tanking..... but he fits.
I wont cry either way

I'd rather get Niko.

The hope is you take on a bad contract attached to a playable player. SoLo is not a playable player, so he was just a black hole.

If you get a Tim Hardaway from the Knicks, you can at least play him.

There is not a single one of those expensive ones I'd consider outside of Hayward/Griffin, and Boston isn't going to trade Hayward. I also doubt Detroit is giving you assets for Griffin.

I'd kick the tires on Dunn/Exum as well at backup PG if Elfrid won't accept that role.

His production matches his contract though. They shouldnt have to attach anything with him to move him.

I like Dunn's upside in the right situation. Minnesota nor Chicago never developed him. He's long, athletic and a good defender. His offensive game needs work, but he has potential. Unfortunately 6 million a year is too much for a developmental project.

Love cripples this team and effectively haults a rebuild...why would any team looking to build a future contender saddle their young team with an aging big man for 4 years...

Hard pass on 4 years of Love at 30m/year. If it was two that’d be fine. Feel like Cleveland going to be pretty bad anyway and would want to attach legit protection to their picks which makes taking that bloat not worth the trouble. It’s not like they’re clearing that space to bring in marquee guys.

We have plenty of assets, I’d rather have flexibility.

Andre Iguodala at 17 million is intriguing. I know he is a core piece for the Warriors, but if they are going to max out Klay, they will need to free up money somehow. Plus, he would be the perfect "culture" vet for this team.

Also, he and Jrue are really tight from their Philly days.

I was thinking about making this same thread and glad you did. Some of those need to be corrected though, like Jabari Parker. He has a team option for 20mil, that I can’t imagine the Wiz pick that up to then just dump him

Steven Adams - 2 years, 53 million

ETA: I'd much rather add Adams than Love
