Here's a write-up from a Real GM poster showing a little more how much LA fricked up.

quote:

Apparently there are some weird cap machinations to where the Pelicans won’t allow the trade to be executed until July 6, meaning Lakers could only have $27.5M in available cap... IF Davis waives his $4.5M trade kicker.

If Davis does not waive his trade kicker then they would only have $23.5M in cap. And it’s been reported that he wants to keep the money and does not intend to waive it.

The other aspect of this is that LA can’t do anything until July 6 which is a week into free agency. By that point a lot of quality role players would have been signed. It’s gonna be really tough for Pelinka to fill out this roster

This was nothing more than desperation by Pelinka to get a big name and do something that the media and LA fake people will slob his and the Lakers’ knob for getting another big name.

But unless FA desparelty want to just play for the Lakers and TAKE LESS MONEY- they are a 2 man team with NO ONE ELSE. I MEAN NO ONE ELSE.

There's a moratorium while the league is auditing all the BRI at the end of the fiscal year. No teams actually sign anyone on July 1 (in fact I would bet the moratorium ends on July 6). They "agree" to terms.

Teams can shift the timing of the signing of deals to give them maximum space/flexibility.

Can they keep Kuzma after next year? How much more will he cost then once he’s off his rookie contract?
