Cool, dont care. I use things that make sense in actually determining how good things are that look at a lot of things, not a narrow spread which is affected by too many things outside the control of said metric. Again, "defensive PPG/scoring defense" is way too affected by things outside of control of the defense. You could have a great special teams mask a mediocre defense. You could have a terrible offense make an elite defense look mediocre. You could play a bunch of overtimes and skew the stat heavily.
People use advanced metrics all the time in baseball, basketball and it's becoming more an more prevalent in football as well.

PPG is a useful tool. But you can’t evaluate it in a bubble.
If a guy gives up over 40 points more in 1 game than he averages the other 36 he’s coached somewhere chances are the other 36 tell you a lot fricking more about him.

25th in defense...#1 in salary. talk about lowering the bar
Take it up with Alleva. LSU wasn't #1 in defense when he got that salary increase, so obviously the salary was based on something other than what you think it should be.
It was based on the reality that this entire thing was being held together by Aranda. Alleva and the coach knew that.

I don't have a problem with him being the top paid DC in the country. I do want better results though. We have a lot more NFL talent than he has had anywhere he has been...even with a depleted DL. IDK why yall give him a pass when I would be willing to bet he would even say he needs to do better.

yall are huge pussies with the downvotes...i prove sammy wrong for his comment about who wisconsin had on the schedule and still get downvoted. Yall really are insecure little bitches if you can't admit you got owned. downvote away pussies

Stevens on passing downs will be a beast. He can cover TE/HB/RB or blitz. It will be difficult for teams to decide who they should double team.

Why would he need to be given a pass? Our defense has vastly improved since he's been on campus and been elite each year he's been here in defensive efficiency:
2018: 5th
2017: 8th
2016: 2nd
2015: 34th (Kevin Steele here)
Because of 1 bad game that went 7 OTs we should be hard on him?
Maybe, just maybe it's an extreme statistical outlier.

It’s not really a pass as much as the fact that he has done extremely well 36/37 games
And we paid him that much because he was the best we could get.
Look at any other top Defenses over the last few years and the person running most of them is either a HC or a DC as a school that could match any offer we made.
Venables and Brown aren’t leaving Clemson or Michigan.
Aranda is a top notch DC.
He’s been elite at LSU. Especially with our DL way below not only our standard but the standard of most other elite Defenses.
In the time he’s coached here 1 of our DL has been drafted.
Alabama has more 1st rounders the last 3 years.
Clemson and Miss St had more 1st rounders this year.

And Venables gave up 35 to South Carolina (in regulation) which is more than Aranda gave up to A&M in regulation last year, dont think anyone is going around knocking Venables

You have to know who you're dealing with. Don't let a couple of downvotes get you upset. Just realize the mentality behind it.

I was Definitely wrong.
But still you made a huge jump calling the defense better without much support.
Also Justin Wilcox is a great coach and so is Paul Chryst. They’re not P5 HCs. So it’s not like the defense was coached by scrubs when he left.

he isn't out performing Chavis. You act like we didn't have great defenses prior to Aranda. Would you agree LSU year in year out has one of the top 5 most talented defenses in the country?

I'm sure he wants nothing more than to have the best defense in the country.
But let's be honest, nothing is happening to him regardless. His job is as secure as can be.

they stayed elite for 2 years. I love Aranda I guess I just expect more than yall do. Yall expect more when it comes to every other coach but are satisfied with the job DA is doing...I want every coach to improve.

why in the hell would you even mention this? Wanting improvement does not equate to wanting him replaced. I don't know how you can jump to that conclusion

You cant out perform someone who was already in elite territory way more often than not, jesus what expectations do you have? For us to allow 10ppg every year
Almost every Chavis defense here was Top 10 in efficiency too, not like his were bad

He has not.
But we also had Chavis, Pellini and Saban running the defense since 2000.
He’s not exactly being compared to scrubs.
Also we’re a very talented team but we have not had too 5 DL talent since Aranda got here.
The 2011 defense had 2 first round picks, an all American and a 3rd rounder on the DL.
The 2007 defense had Glen Dorsey, Tyson Jackson Drake Nevis
We haven’t had close to that since Aranda has been here.
I want The defense to improve but do you really think it’s all coaching?

Then tanked badly the year after that.
What we can go on is every year Aranda has been here, our defensive efficiency is Top 10, that's consistently great. Top 5 2/3 years. Really not sure what you're not "satisfied with".

my point is Chavis was a great coach and fielded great units. He wasn't above reproach but Aranda is? that makes no sense to me. My biggest complaint about DA defense is lack of blitzing.
