Defensive depth chart w/ questions (Football)

DE: Lawrence
DT: Shelvin/Ika
DE: Fehoko/Logan
OLB: Chaisson
MLB: Phillips
MLB: Divinity
OLB: Thornton/Queen/(Stevens?)
CB: Fulton
CB: Stingley
S: Delpit
S: Monroe:
Nickel: Vincent
Quarter/S: Jacoby Stevens.
This defense is stacked, but I worry about how the OLB position will play opposite of Chaisson and how Shelvin/Ika will do against SEC OL...
Maybe Marcel Brooks can be ready enough to play that spot, but what I really think is going to happen is that Jacoby Stevens is gonna play in that spot.
I guess my question is what is everyone else's thoughts of what I have?

Looks good. And I think Brooks will be a contributor blitzing off the edge from day one.
If I had to guess, Thornton gets significant PT at both OLB spots. Backing up Chaisson and splitting time with Queen on the other side... Forgot about Andre Anthony. He'll be in the mix behind Chaisson as well.

The best defense in the nation!

I hope to see Farrell make the same kind of jump that Logan did last season. If they can both contribute when Lawrence/Fehoko need a break, LSU should be as advertised defensively.

Andre Anthony did well last year when he got play time, should fill into Divinity's role nicely on the outside.

Where does Baskerville fit in? Backup in The middle I think??

Best defense that Aranda has had since he's been here. one of the best, if not the best in the country.

Didn't T Harris get most of the playing time opposite Delpit after Battle went down, or am I imagining that?
Posted on 6/12/19 at 5:52 am to Ryan3232
So Monroe will be able to stay on the field this season?
Posted on 6/12/19 at 6:14 am to Ryan3232
I think Queen is ahead of Thornton but you will see a lot of Stevens in that hybrid free lancing OLB/Safety position. Queen showed what he was capable of in the Bama and UCF games as an ILB with his speed, i think he could be dangerous on the outside with how fast he is

I'd say yes, Harris did. I like Monroe, and felt last offseason that he might take Battle's job at some point during the season. but as was mentioned, he can't seem to stay healthy. I like Harris a lot too though.
we stacked at safety.

Between Harris and Monroe I don’t think you have a bad option at Free if Monroe returns from injury to his 2017 self. Excited to see how Brooks fits in

Teams don’t play base defenses anymore. Maybe 20% of the time
On passing downs I think you’ll see Divinity & Stevens as outside pass rushers unless Anthony or Thornton play much better

I assume you are implying that Chiasson is on the field as well.

When did Queen move to OLB? Isn’t he still the first one up behind Phillips/Divinity inside?

It’s time for Aranda to produce another Top 5 Defense and justify his salary.
LSU finished #5 in total D in ‘16, but only #18 and #25 the past 2 years.
Time to be elite again with talent returning.

The reason Divinity is moving to ILB is because they want him on the field a lot more, they really like stevens in that hybrid safety/OLB role and he can easily take that over.
Base D will basically be a 3-3-5 IMO if you consider Stevens a "safety" in that but again more a hybrid LB/S.
DL: Lawrence/Shelvin/Fehoko
LB: Chaisson/Phillips/Divinity
DB: Fulton/Delpit/Stevens/Stingley/Vincent
That's your starting 11 IMO most of the time (most teams we play come out in shotgun 3+ WR sets base).
Your heavy rotational players will include...
DL: Logan, Ika, Farrell
LB: Queen, Baskerville, Thornton, Anthony
DB: Harris, Monroe, Joseph
Then some potential breakout guys to get in rotation we haven't heard much from so far...
DL: Fonua, Jenkins, Cherry
LB: Moore, Clark
DB: Brooks, Jones, Hampton, Ward

Pretty good chart.
You can bet Brooks will see playing time on D.
