Someone told me the muffalattas are really good and there are other things there they've bought.

Got a muffaletta from there last night which was really good, heavy on the kalamata olives. They were very quick with the service too. Next time I'll have to try the take and bake options like the lasagna. They also have your typical preprepped cajun grocery items. Also one of the only places that I've found cheese curds for sale.
I figured there would be some serious competition between this place and Anthony's but they fill completely different niches.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if any of the Italian house made foods are good. I'd read they were. Also read that the Italian sausage is good.
Here's an article on the place.

Went last week and got a muff. they currently do not have a way to heat the muffs in store, so I had to take it home and put it in the oven. I'd like to see them have a small oven.
Besides that, the muff was fresh and delicious. I also liked the variety of items the store has. It is definitely an interesting mix. The prices were reasonable for grocery items

The pimento cheese was very solid. Has olives in it, which was interesting.

Bought some boudin from them memorial day weekend. Really good stuff. I need to go back and try their italian sausage, pre-made take home meals and other stuff. Really friendly people who I hope do well. Their Melville location has been there nearly 100 years.

I like a hot muff. Is it traditional for a muff to be eaten cold or something?

I like both, but I was always under the impression cold is traditional. I lean towards hot. I love melty insides.

To me, with the right bread, along with quality meats and cheese, one that's made cold and left to sit for about an hour at room temperature is the optimal way to have it.

Grant (Cannatella) is a great cook. Make sure you try his seasoning called Mr. Grants. Anytime I was close to Melville, I would stop and buy several containers. I personally like it much better than Tony's.

I like them warmed. I like a little crisp to the bread, melted cheese and the oils from the meats to release a bit. I'm fine with them cold, but prefer warm.

Thanks for the tip on the seasoning. I was looking at it on the FB page yesterday. They ship it as well, I see.
Does anyone know if the red gravy is sweet or not? It looks good, but I'm not too much on the sweet versions.

Muffs are hot if you want them to be, they have an oven and have since they opened. Have to ask.

No. I did ask and dude told me they weren’t set up for it. Glad they have an oven now.

the muffs are the best in BR! They heated mine... Their boudin is the best I've ever tried. I also enjoy all the specialty cheeses and prepared foods. And I'm glad I bought some Mr. Grant's seasoning...It's a good flavor profile and not overly salty. I've been there 4 times and is getting really busy. A GREAT addition to Mid-City!!!

Has anyone had the red gravy? Is it sweet?

This may sound stupid but I like the bread just slightly toasty but everything inside to be cold. That’s a tall order for most places to pull off but I have had it. It’s just a matter of putting it under a high broiler very quickly.
