Gus’s fried chicken

Anyone have any latest info on the New Orleans location?

I don’t know if it’s still happening. I was addicted to Gus’s when I lived in Little Rock and Houston. The website used to have “Future locations” and half NOLA listed but it has been removed. Not sure what’s going on. Nothing online anywhere.

I eat at the Oxford location probably more than I should considering how bad fried chicken is for you. Best fried chicken I’ve personally ever had. And I love me some fried chicken.

I had emailed corporate a while back and they said May, which obviously did not happen. Would be a bummer if it didn't happen. Was really looking forward to this.

What's Gus's? Is that the Memphis place that supposed to be the tits?

Yep, Memphis. And it's overhyped. The chicken is pretty good but the place overall is kind of meh. The sides are boring and bland.

A fried chicken joint that focuses on providing great fried chicken and 24-32oz beers in a run down, no frills building is overhyped.
What a time to be alive.

Gus’s in Memphis was a near-religious experience the first time I went. It lived up to all the hype and then some. I couldn’t care less about the sides. I go for the bird and it’s the best I’ve ever had, and I’m a fried chicken connoisseur.

Have yall noticed any differences in quality between locations? I’ve been to the one in Oxford but not the original in Memphis. I loved it and it’s definitely some of the best fried chicken I’ve had, top 5 for sure, but idk about all this GOAT talk.
One of the very few restaurants I’ve been that I think can make fried chicken better than myself or my mother though.

None of the locations seem to be quite the same as the original in Mason, TN or the second in downtown Memphis

Just curious as to what places you think are better? I’ve been to all of the “best” places — Willie Mae’s, Lorman Country Store, Yardbird, and numerous others, but none come close to Gus’s. Always looking for new places to try.
The one in Austin was not as good as the original location and the one in Memphis, but at the NOLA Food Fest a few years ago I had it and it was excellent

I work next to the Gus's in Lexington and I've only been once, that's how disappointed I was. 2 piece dark with mac and cheese and fries was $17 because they didn't tell me they only serve one size of fries that is $5.
There are at least 2 or 3 places just in Lexington that are better for way less.

The original location of Gus's is in Mason, Tennessee. The original is far better than all the separately-owned and operated franchises, including the franchise located in Memphis itself.
The original Gus's in Mason is by far the best fried chicken I've ever had, the crust cooked uniquely to a dark brown, almost caramel sweetness. The franchise location in Memphis is, literally, a pale imitation.

Yes, I actually mentioned it in a thread recently. It's one of my favorites as well, although I prefer Gus's.

According to the local franchisor, they are opening "in about a month." We will see.......

So I'm assuming it's run by good Christians who give all glory to God?
