Sounds like I found your presidential candidate.
Btw, why haven't we made it a law that housing should be free? I mean think of all the money people could save and be able to spend elsewhere. Like they could buy maps because they don't have maps and they need them to learn where they are on earth.

Why do I have to purchase a mortgage just to live in a house. Why cant I just save and buy?
Because They don't want you to do that.
Home prices began to rise sharply with Fannie Mae in the 30's and really rocketed with Freddie Mac in the early 70's when 30 year loans became standard.
By qualifying nearly everyone for large mortgages, the cost of housing increased due to the addition of money in the marketplace.
It is part of the New Deal and New World Order. People in heavy debt are not free men, they are indentured servants to the state and easier to control, have less free time to think and organize and become cogs in the wheel.
You can see parallel price increase in college tuitions when the federal government injected money into the system when they put out the college loan program and a similar rise in health care when health insurance came into the picture.
People used to afford those things by saving too. Now they are all out of control.
Just look at the price of cars and trucks when 72 and 84 month auto loans became the standard. Same thing.
Back in the 50's and 60's people could afford these things by saving.
These programs were put in place under the guise of increasing home ownership and college educations and health care availability but truly only served to make the land owners, colleges, and health care providers richer while creating a generations of people enslaved to the system.
As Joshua said, "The only way to winning move is not to play."
You're forced to either rent or throw out all dignity and buy a tiny house.

Whats that over 30 years?
15 years.
Purchased house at $70sqft and they are now selling around me at $140-$150sqft.
Getting a mortgage and buying a house may be the single best financial decision I have ever made.

I never said free. Im saying that housing prices are too high. Before you know it even a 30 year mortgage wont be enough and we are all out in the street.

Yes you, but not your neighbor.

Its not supply and demand when you add credit to the equation.

The market tends to work itself out.
I remember when the recession came back in 2008. If you had the money, houses in DFW became dirt cheap. A neighborhood near me of million dollar homes, were selling at $300-$400 from builders who were stuck with built inventory. Those homes are now back over $1million because of the solid economy here.
That is a pretty good investment right there.
Houses will always sell what the market says.

No. You see, that's how markets work. Collectively, we agree on what the prices should be. If you don't like the prices, move to a market where people as cheap as you live.
I suggest South Detroit.

You’ve always had to go into debt to get a home.
ETA: The market will take care of prices on its own, but people need to stop trying to control the fricking market. Can’t afford the 5 bedroom just outside the metro? Then get a 3 bedroom a little further out. Too many people are trying to fix the game. I’m not the mose knowledgable when it comes to economics, but too many people want first class when they can only afford coach. Nothing wrong with living inside your means.

This is true. I am playing Red Dead Redemption 2 right now and I owe the bank money for the ranch house and barn I just built.
Mud makes it sound like houses used to be ordered from Sears for $1000

You’re perfectly welcome to save and buy.
Do it.
Do it.

How do you think prices would look on a supply and demand curve without credit added to the equation?
Posted on 6/10/19 at 7:51 am to DarthRebel
"houses used to be $9700!!!"
(Ignores people also only made $100/week)

It's called markets, baw. And once you do get a house, you want that value to stay and grow.
