Fontenot looked like shite in the postseason before tonight.

What's your point?

The point is you walk him every time in that situation. Baseball 101

5. Martin has more hits this season than Mendoza.

Yet Mendoza is the vastly superior hitter. It's 2019, time to retire batting average as a meaningful stat.

My point is you’re talking about odds. The odds say Mendoza is red hot and Martin isn’t.

Martin was also 0/4 tonight. More odds. Martin is also a true freshman. Not odds, but intangibles.

His .332 average can frick off. He’s not god damn 2001 Barry Bonds.

These threads late in the night grasping at straws to try to justify a COMPLETELY unjustifiable decision should be deleted. In NO, NONE, NOT ONE, NEVER EVER, do you pitch to that kid. And despite Paul being a complete out of touch dumbass, DF almost pulled off the improbable.

What's the point of posting this in every thread? The decision to walk him was the objectively sound decision. Getting 2 strikes on Mendoza or even striking him out doesn't change that, just like Watson being safe doesn't make that run to 2nd a good choice.

People keep making this argument and it's stupid. Walking Mendoza sets up a force everywhere. Martin was a right handed hitter to face fontenot as opposed to the lefty Mendoza. Martin was 0-4 this game and has struggled in the post season. There were many more reasons to walk him than to pitch to Mendoza just cause his season average is 13 points lower which is completely negligible over the course of the season. With those averages being what and what I'm pitching to the guy whose been struggling especially since every other metric favors walking Mendoza there.

Maybe, but not nearly as ignorant as you.

Please Lester, keep telling everyone how a strikeout is better than any other out with 2 down.

Please. Please keep saying it.

Martin looked like poop the whole game. You also want to set up the force.

Unnecessary with 2 strikes. You’re now arguing against yourself.

2 outs. You could have walked them both for that matter.

Dipshit baserunning put us there.

Geezus. What does that guy coaching third actually do?

It’s not “better” and that’s not his point. His point is that Mendoza, a guy that K’s a ton, is going to be an easier out for a guy like Fontenot then someone who puts the ball in play. Fontenot lives on the strikeout and Mendoza strikes out a ton.

I’m not saying I agree with the decision to pitch to him, but I understand the reasoning.

You don't give the run that ends your season a free base... that's just insane, especially considering that it tightens the zone that much more on a pitcher when a BB/HBP, balk or wild pitch ends the game.
