Hes 27 not 32. I think by taking this trade Pelicans would be saying in two years we are going for it. They would feel Zion would be one of the better players in league in his third year. Then you have a elite back court to run on side of him. Him and Jrue would be a really strong back court because their strenths compliment the others weaknesses to a lesser degree like the GS back court does. If we can get a couple first with this trade and Collins it could be a very strong trade. We were hoping for Ad to return and hes only a year younger than CJ.

michael porter jr is more intriguing with the unknown factor.

Well, it depends on what team is trying to jump in..

For instance someone like Chicago could jump in and offer #7, Carter and Dunn for CJ..

Then your trade could essentially be:

POR: AD, Hill
CHI: CJ, couple 2nds from POR
NOP: #7, Collins, Harkless, Carter, Dunn, future POR 1st

A package like that would be hard to beat.. It opens up cap space for us as well as giving good young assets (Harkless is basically just a salary throw in) and a future pick

You can also construct a three-way with CJ going other direction. Just theoretically
How I hope it would go down. There’s value in this deal even if the fit for the Pels isn’t great. Masai/Kawhi helped us out big time...gonna be other gms with quasi-all stars who would take an AD flyer as well.

IN two years, both CJ and Jrue would be looking for new contracts.

If they could do this deal, and somehow manage to sign another guy in FA that can be the big 3 point threat we need, whether at the 3 (danny green) or the 4/5 (niko), i'd be on board.
I would absolutely love to see Jrue and McCollum be our 1 & 2.

You go this route, it would be extremely important that you scout and draft guys that can contribute eventually, or be assets in trades, in a similar fashion Toronto and Denver have been able to find talent in the late 1st.

but think of all the compensatory picks we'll get back if they leave.

Huh what?

There's only 3 teams in the NBA with the assets to beat that package, and it would force them to put all those chips on the table

Chicago is not giving up Carter and the #7 for CJ.

Denver could provide equal but younger talent with Murray or Harris, but i think they feel confident moving forward with their team as is, assuming they can bring Milsap back.

Portland deal doesn’t make sense for us. Of course they will offer that. It’s time to move on.

CJ McCollum makes an elite back court paired with Jrue.

He's a ball handler and a 3 ball shooter.

He's still young and is used to playing with a star.

He's probably better than any other asset we can get back for AD except for maybe if 1.3 strikes gold... even that you are waiting and delaying franchise development though while we have a ready now Jrue on roster.

That is an awful deal for us. All time shitty trade. Carter the only piece worth getting excited about. I'd rather the Knicks only give us #3 a future 1st and Robinson than that.

Wouldn't mind a package built on Embiid or Simmons
