Another Snow Job from JBE- Teacher Raises
Posted on 6/4/19 at 1:17 am

JBE and his minions are breaking arms patting themselves on the backs because the LEGISLATURE passed a bill which increases teacher pay in Louisiana $1,000 annually.
Kudos to you Gov!! Louisiana teachers will now make $10,000 per year BELOW the NATIONAL AVERAGE instead of $11,000 per year BELOW the NATIONAL AVERAGE. That is more like a cost of living adjustment.
How about we raise the standards and also invest on growing the economy so our less than average paid teachers would stop producing less than average students who even if they are able to find a job in Louisiana will no doubt make less than average incomes.
Perhaps it is because we have a less than average Governor who wants to take credit for things he should have done, and done better, a long time ago. But, typical Louisiana- lets just keep throwing money at a problem rather than making systemic changes that would produce results.

The national average is a meaningless statistic

Teachers in every state do nothing but constantly bitch about their pay.

They’re your typical government employee bots, poor me I only get 4 months off a year. Please......

Yea, but an annual salary isn't. Get a life.

What’s LA’s cost of living relative to the national average?

Same meaningless statistic unless pegged to COL

And they knew it wasn’t a high paying job before they went to college.

It was an administration bill. The governor had to fight with the revenue estimating committee to get the available funds. This has been an administration priority from the get go.
This anti Edwards propaganda is stupid.
If this makes you upset, you should be breathing fire against the legislative republicans who fought even this modest raise.

People bitch about bad teachers but they don't look at what causes it. If you are willing to pay more you attract better teachers along with making harder standards. Many highly successful teachers move out of state or to better paying parishes leaving only crappy ones. Then so many areas have teacher shortages they can't get rid of those poor performing teachers because they have no one to replace them.

LAE which is the Louisiana arm of NEA is already bragging about the raise and saying that we must support JBE. Why did the “republican” legislature give him this win?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but inflation is about 2% a year. 50,000 adjusted for inflation for one year would be $1,000, so this really isn’t a raise, this is just a cost of living increase.

Find another job.... I’ve never demanded a raise, don’t like the pay put in applications somewhere else.

Correct and many areas haven't seen a raise in 10-15 years.

It's good (dragged down by low real estate prices, which of course, hampers middle class wealth accumulation), but not as good as it should be with all our negatives.
Frankly, Louisiana doesn't have much to offer other than food culture and outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing, at least over a typical state, particularly a southern state.
Workforce as dumb as a box of hammers. Beyond shitty infrastructure. Higher taxes than appear justified on the surface. State and local governments just as corrupt as the day is long.
Cheap land - that's the only draw to someone from the outside. And that just isn't enough, normally, which is why we lose out on most of the manufacturing opportunities of the past 10, 15 years.
