How do Saints fans view Archie Manning?

During his time in New Orleans. Do y'all think that he was a terrible QB or the only bright spot during the 10 years he was there?

He'd have been amazing with an actual team with talent around him. He was running for his life the entire time he was here. He was one of the only reasons to watch Saints football for a long time.

Most viewed him as a popular but imperfect quarterback. He was mostly seen as a net positive for the team and the city... there wasn’t much to cheer for most of the time back then, but Archie was indeed a bright spot.

Archie ran for his life while with the Saints. That’s all I got.

I think Saints fans view him as a hell of a quarterback who was stuck on crappy teams.
I remember he hosted a call in show on WWL with Cooper for a short time and people spent so much time gushing over Archie Cooper had to say on air, "When you call in please don't spend 5 minutes telling my Dad how great he was. He appreciates it but it takes up so much time that we need." The very next caller spent 5 minutes telling Archie how great he was and how bad he felt that we couldn't put a decent team around him.
I got to meet him and he was the nicest most genuine person I've ever met. I saw him a few minutes later and though I expected him to pretend he didn't see me he stopped, shook my hand and said, "Merry Christmas, Jebboy."
There is no doubt Drew Brees is a better quarterback but Archie will always be my favorite.

I’m not a fan of the Mannings in general, but I’ve started to come around in recent years.

Very talented with a horrible offensive line and defense year after year. Extremely loyal to New Orleans and its fans.

The whole city was shocked and pissed when Bum Phillips traded him to Houston for Earl Campbell

You will have to show me a tougher guy to ever play for the Saints.
You will have to show me a more loyal guy to ever play for the Saints.
You will have to show me a more athletic guy to ever play for the Saints.
He was the target of all on so many bad Saints teams. He was sacked 340+ times in 134 games played with the Saints. Add countless other hits after or during the throw. Rushed 350+ times scrambling for over 2K yards.
He ended his Saints career with over 21K yards, mostly on the run with the OL of those days.
Today’s youngsters would be demanding a trade after a year or two.
How do I view Archie? I respect no other Saint, before or after more than #8.

Mecom was shite owner..He didn't care about the team winning, he just to have a reason to party on Sunday..If he owned an NFL team today he would be forced out.

Great QB, terrible team around him.

Good QB on a mostly putrid team.
You wonder what ifs had he gone to a competent team.

...like a God.
In truth, he was overrated. Good player. The best player the franchise had for a long time. But, not in the neighborhood of a Hall of Fame type.

He was a mixed bag. The whole "He would have been one of the greatest of the decade if he had a decent team" is overrating him.

Slightly above average QB on some really bad teams.
He’s romanticized by a lot of old saints fans.

Before my time, but he did win 1979 NFC Offensive Player of the Year. That says a lot.

Love that man.
Spent his whole NFL career running for his life. Can't imagine how well he would have done with an O-line that provided some protection.

Our team was so bad that even the highlights looked like they were playing backyard football.

In Archie's rookie season, the Saints went 4-8-2, which was their fewest losses in a season to that point. I thought we were really going somewhere.
Then the injuries started...
