my prediction on the game now:
state will tie vandy in the 9th, the game will go extra innings, state will deplete their bullpen and lose to vandy.

That would make sense with some people, but a lot of guys need a rhythm at the plate. If you trust your guy, he needs to hack his way out of his slump.

Not sure of the pitcher we are going against at this point but if it is a lefty I am not playing Reid.

What is the alternative, Hughes?
He can’t hit a righty or lefty. He can’t work a count. He can’t even get a productive out.

I’m with you on Hughes. Defensively he is great but at some point you have to move on. He is an automatic out right now. Let him sit a game and let Reid play.

I would sit him as well. If his replacement plays well, then keep him on the bench. Use him to pinch hit when we are desperate

I know this board is in love with Reid, but he is batting 246 for the year. He was about 320 halfway through. That means he’s around the Mendoza line since. And he’s worse against lefties!
Hughes is every bit as good as Reid against lefties (both are almost auto-outs), and he is better on defense. If the choice is between those two you go with Hughes until the lefty leaves the game. But hopefully there is another choice.

He's not that great defensively, and considering he's 5 of this last 39 for a .128 batting average, with zero rbi's, zero extra base hits, 4 walks, and 7 k's while being slow on the bases, the only reason he should ever play is when Todd Peterson is pitching so we can DH for Hughes and let Peterson swing.
