Chinese Tarriffs: time to put up or shut up fellow Americans

A few things regarding this tariff issue with China.
First, the talking points were out this morning that NIKE has come out and said that the price of their shoes could go up 100% due to tariffs. Home Depot and Walmart said to expect higher prices on items imported from China.
What I have not seen brought up is the fact that these companies utilize Chinese sweat shops to make their products that are then shipped to the US.
So China does in fact rip the US off in conjunction with US brands being complicit by paying much lower wages than if they made their product here in the states.
So the question that is presented is as follows:
Does the American public really care about its fellow citizen to the extent that they are willing to pay more for goods made in China with the hope that US mfg will return here as the incentive to make everything abroad is not as great?
Or is it all lip service and the American people want their crap from China -CHEAP- fellow citizen be damned?
We are at an impasse as i see it- either you want cheap crap made in China or stuff made here that will cost more because American labor costs more (right or wrong due to labor laws and unions)?

Screw China and their illegal trade practices, human rights abuses and IP thievery.

And poor hoodrats will still line up to be the first to get the new Jordans (or whatever the craze is for their shoes now).

Said everybody until they roll into Walmart and see that their favorite plastic item that is “has to be owned” now costs 25% more.
Fact is the American people- as a whole- don’t give a frick about Joe six pack and his factory job being shipped to China. Nope
The 40yr conditioning of cheap Chinese, Vietnam, etc goods is what they all want.
Must consume, must consume, must consume.
MOAR MOAR MOAR STUFF

Nike sells $100+ shoes made by practical slaves. No way their profit margins are low so they can go play in traffic for all I care.

op is two thousand and late
the goalposts are presently set at "have companies say they're moving manufacturing from china to vietnam/philippines", not have it go to the US

China will let their people starve to get their way and use military force too stem any riots. They are in fact communists.

It is very simple. If Nike raises prices 100%, buy Under Armour.
Once Nike can't afford to maintain due to the lack of business, Nike will either cut prices or they will relocate said sweat shops to where they can restore their profit margin.
Say... Michigan?

Look, if you don't want us to buy Chinese-made products, that's fine. The issue is that huge U.S. firms are heavily integrated with China right now. Supply chains are complicated. They can't just move production elsewhere overnight, which is why these huge tariffs are going to be a problem if they continue. They could start claiming U.S. jobs too. Also, production is not going to move to the U.S. when it can just pick another cheaper option abroad that isn't China.
As it stands, the Trump admin is already granting tariff waivers to certain U.S. companies because some things simply aren't produced anywhere outside of China.
Again, the problem is that tariffs are being implemented on a whim, which is not good for U.S. companies. It's not their fault that China represented a good place to produce things.

Such short term thinking. Keeping China accountable and participation with more good actors will benefit everyone.

Hey Nike, hyperbole much?
Show us some numbers or STFU.

It is definitely lip service. Look at all those people who want to "save the world" but have no problem with our billions of plastic water bottles and other American refuse contaminating the home of those yellow folks.
That, and the Chinese are paying off American politicians.
The root of all evil is the love of money, and American hypocrisy is unrivaled in world history. We better enjoy it while it lasts.

I'm weak on my modern Chinese history. Are they still using a Communist Style Government with a Capitalism based economy. What about Hong Kong?

Oh?
The increase will be limited to just Nike? Whew.

Every plastic bottle that gets recycled needs to be sorted and cleaned correctly because it only takes a small fraction of contamination to turn an entire batch of PET into unusable trash. The handling and cleaning process of PET has to be so extraordinarily diligent or, off to the landfill it goes. We have seen this scenario play out in 2018 as China officially decided to ban the import of our contaminated, dirty post-consumer plastics which we were accustomed to shipping away in massive quantities.
Do plastic water bottles REALLY get recycled?

Sure thing on one hand and hope in the other.

Well, you can choose to pay a little more, so all Americans can work
Or you can pay a ton more in taxes so that we have a military capable of fighting China
There are no other alternatives
And I prefer the choice to buy a good, rather than being forced to pay the increased taxes
