It all ends one day. Nobody's going to meet a higher maker. Nobody is getting to see their loved ones in an afterlife. It just ends. I think.

I believe this because some of the most calmest, kind hearted and peaceful people I know are regular church goers that my parents are friends with and some people I knew in college. Strikes me as Mike Pence types that you just can't find it in you to hate completely.
However, I know a few swinging couples that are also happily married to each other and have different girlfriends and boyfriends. But the thing is that a few of them are also occasional church goers and still practice christianity and fidelity to God and Jesus christ himself. Like 4-6 sundays every 4-5 months.
Just confounds the brain.

it shouldn't. people are just wired differently about all sorts of things
just like i know some genuinely happy people who are also very religious and on their 3rd/4th marriage
religion has a place (even for the non-religious) but the problem is when you allow it to try to be too universal, especially in ancillary areas.

And this is an extremely depressing and unmotivating thing to hear.

depends. you can flip it, just go with the whole "you only have a limited time on earth" meme and it becomes a life changer

I'm not saying that guy is telling the truth about unhappy girlfriends as he is a dirty liberal after all that just bashed religious conservatives and I hate that.
But his responses are typical of a pattern on this website being that men get angry when a poster shares information about sexual matters or sexual characteristics in their own lives.
Like for example, how many women he's had sex with, how attractive they are or how big his dick size is.
The latter being a prime example that men won't get angry and don't reply or vote when a poster says his dick is smaller or just about average but when one guy says that his dick is big, he gets downvoted and lots of scornful negative replies.
It's just fascinating to watch. It's like slut shaming in reverse for men.

I would say some Christians struggle.
I am atheist. But, I can certainly understand that someone may simply go through struggles and "fall away" from what they perceive to be their "belief".
I'll not denigrate them for the times they are on the "believer" path and I'll not celebrate when they "fall off". If they come to the position that I have, I'll treat them exactly as I will if they come to a more thorough "belief"....like humans who I hope are happy and , so long as they behave in a likable, respectable way, will be liked and respected.
"We" don't need to prevail. It truly CAN be a win - win relationship.

It’s insecure behavior.
That’s why people downvote it.

I'm not celebrating the fall of anyone, just pointing out that some people attend church because of societal pressures and to appear as an upstanding citizen. I have never criticized anyone for truly having faith. The world can be a tough place, so do whatever helps you get through it and prosper.

Sentrius, "Swinging couples" are not practicing Christians. They may go to church occasionally but apparently they aren't learning anything. They need to look in the bible for answers to questions about morality because too many preachers today don't preach about sin anymore.

quote:I appreciate the kindness but I'm serious. In a materialistic, naturistic worldview where there is no (Biblical) God, there is no basis for expecting uniformity in nature (how does chaos and randomness produce order?) necessary for scientific study and discovery; there's no basis for laws of logic and reason, or other immaterial principles; and there is no basis for moral absolutes that people generally agree exist to one degree or another, among other things.
We disagree and I still love you
We do know things. We learn things. We experience things and can confirm our experience is valid and not illusory. We reason and abide by the seemingly universal principles of logic, such as non-contradiction. We know (generally) right from wrong and understand it in a fundamental sense. These things should not be possible in an atheistic world where the only things that exist are matter, moving around randomly in the universe with no purpose. We shouldn't be able to "know" anything, at least for certain, because all we have is our limited experience based on chemical reactions in our own minds. So yeah, if God doesn't exist, we can't know anything.
We all live within the confines of the Christian worldview, even if we don't know it or agree with it.
ETA:
Thank you for being gracious

What about when it's relevant to the topic?
Also, sorry but the idea that it can only look not insecure when the poster states that it's small or just about average just strikes me as insecurity from the voters themselves. Intentionally depreciating yourself to not get angry responses just strikes me as stupid and actually insecure in itself.
Some guys have big dicks like some guys have average or smaller dicks and all of that is nothing to be outraged about.
The left complains about body shaming and that's something that legit can be considered body shaming and that is something I will never do.

I'm not attacking your world view, but how do you explain the presence of many of these things prior the spread of Christianity?
