It most likely saved his arse from getting torched by the dragon after killing dany.

To get My man Bronn to Highgarden

Why do we need a definitive answer? Maybe the lord of light is a fickle god who interferes with the lives of the living at his own whim. Did you want him to show up in a firey ball and reveal himself in the last episode?

Jon will knock up a wildling lady. Have a crazy power hungry mad kid that will go take over the throne. Targ line will continue.

The children of the wildlings will try to stop Jon’s son by stabbing him with dragon glass in the heart.

Because it turns Jon's resurrection into a simple plot device. That's why.

Thanks Shakespeare, that was very insightful. Just because Jon didn’t end up where you wanted didn’t make it a “simple plot device”. His character from his resurrection onward was anything but simple. You can use reductionist reasoning all you want and say every damn character on the show was a simple plot device.

King of the Free Folk, King of the North, Rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, Breaker of the Wheel Breaker's Heart, Jon Snow

I feel like I would have liked the episode better if Drogon had torched Jon
I wanted either:
(a) Drogon to torch Jon ... but only half of Jon burn.
(b) Jon to say, "Dracaris" ... Drogon burns Dany to a crisp, and then Jon hops on Drogon and he starts flying around .... and then runs shite.

The ending to Jon's character arc was fine with me. He never wanted power and only accepted it reluctantly. I could have seen Dany's death affecting him so much that he renounces his claim to the throne and banishes himself north of the Wall.
That's not the issue here. The issue is the purpose of the Lord of the Light, not whether or not Jon Snow should have ended up on the Iron Throne.

Why was he brought back to life?
To unite all involved to save the entire world from the army of the dead.

Why was he sent to the nights watch now that the white walkers are dead?
Political reasons based on his actions against Dany.
Seriously, do you people even watch the show?

How many people decided who the king would be knew Jon was the rightful king the whole time? Dany never was queen.

Do you not watch the show? The Wall resides in the North. The North became its own independent kingdom to be lorded over by Sansa Stark - the brother of Jon Snow. The Wall belongs to the North now. How does Bran banish him to a part of Westeros he doesn't even control?

What purpose would you want? Maybe the lord of light is a fickle god in a pantheon of gods who does whatever the hell he wants in the affairs of men from time to time. Was he supposed to manifest himself incarnate and fight somebody? I don’t know what answer you want.

Davos, Sansa, Arya, and Sam for starters. Tyrion also knew and he was the one who proposed Bran's name for king.

Are you sure the wall is ruled over by the north? Seems like a lot of people were sent to the wall from the south if I recall correctly. I thought it was an independent entity.
Posted on 5/19/19 at 10:55 pm to RollTide1987
Exactly. So to all the people that mattered, the King killed a tyrant that just burned the city to the ground. It didn’t make sense.

Every character is a plot device. By definition. Some have more impact than others...

Maybe he was. But now we'll never know because the show is officially over. We can play these dumb games all night long if you want. The fact that we have to make up theories as to why the Lord of Light did what he did is a problem for me. It would have been different if he wasn't so active in the story. But he was.

What was the point of bran and and finding out jon is the true heir so bran can say haha, go back to “jail”, all I ever wanted is to be king and my midget knew it
