None of what I’ve said has been to argue there wasn’t frickery afoot with Steele and the dossier. All of my comments here have been that I don’t think this specific story in the OP is that big of a deal.
Ok, fair enough but it is akin to piecing a mosaic together. In and of itself, some of these stories might not be big but as you fit the pieces together, the stories take a whole new shape in the big picture.
You see there was "frickery" going on apparently so you have to know many of these stories are fitting together an over-arching case of sedition, and treasonous collusion from the left side of the aisle. I am just looking for a few honest lefties to come out and call the BS out. Glad you are being reasonable at least to the point where you don't deny there was reams of shady stuff going on. The vast majority of lefties refuse to acknowledge any of it.

The SAME damn lies from the SAME damn people and they all knew each other! NOT VERIFIED!!! IT WAS A HOAX!!!! And worst yet, it was coming from.....you guessed it: THE RUSSIANS!!!
A point many people here seem to forget because they are so intent on saying Russian collusion is a hoax. Well collusion was a hoax, but it doesn't mean the Russians weren't involved in the information laundering to Steele because they clearly were.
There's three possibilities for Steele's behavior:
1) He was a useful idiot who actually believed his Russian contacts were telling him the truth.
2) He knew it was fake news, but peddled it for his clients (Fusion/Hillary) anyway. To really stick it to Trump, he peddled it to MI6 and FBI and used his reputation as a former MI6 operative for credibility.
3) He was actually a Russian asset unbeknownst to British intel and the FBI. He is a prime candidate for someone the Russians would recruit: a former head of the Russia desk at MI6; a guy who was involved in far-left politics in college; and a guy who probably wasn't getting rich from his MI6 pension.
Despite which of the three is true, Steele's reputation is forever ruined (at best). At worst he is going to prison.
The fact the Russians laundered the info to Steele is something that blew a hole in the collusion story from the start. If the Russians were so in bed with Trump, why were they spreading rumors about golden showers? This is a question I always asked myself and I never heard the MSM address. I mean it's a glaring inconsistency.

But Number 10 figures say categorically that she was not briefed on the dossier.
Exactly why the intel chiefs shielded May from the claims is not known.
Possible reasons could include protecting May given the political need to build a relationship with Trump, uncertainty about elements of the dossier, or delay while verification took place.
So the British IC was going behind the PM's back about surveillance on the head of another member of Five Eyes? Shouldn't that be the bigger story?

Trump is going to be in London for a State visit in early June.
This leak may have been done to embarrass May, or just to get it out so that'll blow over by the time he gets there.
They're claiming they didn't tell May. That's so she can tell Trump she didn't know a thing about it.

Four. He had nothing to do with putting the dossier together but was paid to put his name on it to cover the stink of Sydney Blumenthal. It is absurd that there has been no attempt to extradite Steele and get him under oath.
Wasn't there some guy charged with investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election? He didn't feel any need to speak to a guy who claims, (I believe falsely), to have helped them do just that?

That's exactly why Harrigan resigned the day after Trump won.
You are right, Hannigan quit the week Trump won. He said personal reasons. Then ironically, suddenly he comes forward, after all this time, and says its because he gave reference for a priest who was accused of being a pedofile. Later the priest did it again.
But that happened long before he was GCHQ chief, and he had discussed it with them, it was publicly known, and it was not deemed a deterrent to take the job.
Why bring it up now, just a shiny object to take away the obvious reason for him quitting.

The Brita are pretty desperate for trade deals right now. They would give us Steele's head in a basket if anyone would bother to ask
