I’m in construction and have worked with many really great gentlemen with families working their arse off in our country and doing great things.

It’s a tough call and a conundrum. These are the people that need a path to citizenship that is not overly difficult or costly. These are the people we want in our country but they broke and continue to break the law.

So you got him at 265 per 1k and no extras instead of paying an American to lay them at 450 + extras.

You are weak. Report your criminal friend and get the frick out of here with your sob stories. I could give a shite less that your friend is a "good guy". He's an outlier if anything and at worst he is still a violator of the law. By your own account, he knows he is here illegally and is in effect in hiding. How in any way is that right for any citizen who applied and did everything the right way? The law is the law.

Hard to see why he's a favorite, eh?

This guy is no different than IBChinaman selling out the country for their own financial benefit.

These are also the same people that take innocent lives by driving drunk. I have no sympathy for them. They do good work, great. So when this country needs construction workers, then we'll talk. Have expedited entry for occupations of need in this country. Not a God damn swarm of Uber driver Muslim kabobs.

So, what do you want do on Monday? Throw people like me in jail for hiring him? Is that your immigration plan?

Absolutely. We can't reduce illegal immigration when we give them free shite and people like you knowingly employ them. If he's been here 25 years and still can't speak English, he isn't trying. If he doesn't know the proper steps to become legal, then he doesn't care to know. That information is readily available in multiple languages. He simply doesn't care about our culture or our laws.

did you read the part about the type of person he is?

That's awesome. Glad he's a good person. This world needs more of those. I know a guy that was arrested for bouncing checks to buy formula and diapers for his baby. Was he let off because he was trying to be a good father? Nope. You know why? Because he broke the law. A lot of good people are arrested for breaking the law. Why should the guy you know get special treatment?

Just tell him until he gets his personal affairs in order he cannot work on your job sites.

If they crackdown on this stuff you can get tangled up in this. I have friends that got caught up with having illegal subs on their job sites and got in trouble for this criminally.

Bottom line he made the decision to come here.
He did not try to apply for citizenship which is not your problem or The United States.
Just because the law has not caught up with him does not mean that one day he gets caught by having a car accident, jobsite accident, etc.
His fault if he gets picked up and has to go back from where he is from.

Don’t make his problem your problem.

Not really

I have a few questions for Apex

1. Is he a sub of a sub?

2. Does he have his own workers comp or does he ride under yours?

3. How much are you paying him per 1k this year vs let's say 2011?

4. Who provides the brick, mortar and ties?

yes, he's not alone...you think the construction industry offers English classes for men in their 30's?

His children speak excellent English because they have been educated in our schools..

So, 25 years in the US with daughters who speak excellent English. Yeah, this dude dgaf about learning English.

yes it's a moral conflict of my conscious because I know the guy...I like him...he's a good dad...not a trouble maker which there are many I understand

You'd like him too... You'd want him on your house over a lot of other 'citizens'...

Are you for people being here illegally or not? Your answer to that question lets you know what you will end up doing (at least it should).

thank you sir for your post, finally someone with a good understanding of the issues in the construction labor force..

America is lacking skilled labor across the country....ask any builder, ask any contractor trying to grow their business...skill, attitude, work ethic all missing...we have an aging labor force, young people aren't interested

some of the comments in this thread are really surprising....

I am conservative through and through and I am pretty consistent on being tough on immigration...

but you will have a different attitude about it once you meet some of them and ask them questions and get to know them, , but you have to actually like people and show an interest in them.

it appears some people on the board here have an imagine in their mind that Hispanics, "illegals" are all basically the same low life bottom feeders who can just be easily replaced by our white millennial work force.

my sentiment was about the big picture....

did you not read the part where the government is literally busing 225000 migrants (who crossed illegally and captured) all across the country, but you people here on TD want me to report a guy who has been here for 25 years who is actually contributing to our society.

do you not see the mixed message from our government? The government is saying "come on in, we will deal with your papers later"

That said, there aren't a lot of good mason's around Raleigh...

The Construction industry has a big problem...take the illegal labor issue out of it

Our young people are told "you must go to college to be successful"

"don't use your hands"

Trades have been largely ignored the last 20 years, and now we're paying the price for allowing High schools to take trades out of their curriculum

I speak from my friends experience as a former contractor.

ICE went into a neighborhood that 30 homes were going up and my friend was building two
homes. Since the sub on his site had illegals on 3/4 of job sites in the neighborhood ICE went after all the home builders and subcontractor.

ICE does not care about your labor issue when they raid job sites.

Yes, my friend only got 6 months while the sub contractor got 5 yrs.

When you lose your professional license, pay thousands in legal fees including lawyers, pay fines, and still go to jail it is not worth it.

I'll ask her about this

Again, I will refer you to the buses headed to your city with illegal migrants who were just captured, given a court date in 2021, .... At least the guy I know offers America something it needs...these children and adults coming in buses, what do we know about them?

This is why I fully support Trump because he's actually trying to change the madness of it all, while Democrats block funding to build a wall...Congress won't change catch and release.

Never heard a builder serving time for having illegals on a job site. People do realize our government has allowed 16 million people in here over decades...they have families and it grows...

I built homes in texas for a few years, in 1993, immigration came to the Woodlands, we had illegals running into the model homes hiding, it was crazy...

nothing happened really to those guys...nothing to the national builder I was working for...but we almost lost that slab we were pouring that day ...
