Almost exactly a year ago I had a post on here asking for advice on a nice tv for my man cave. Got the Sony AF8 and loved it. Then came the day that a stuck red pixel and tv shutting down with software errors.

Finally got a credit for this and have another shot at it.

Man cave has moderate light from the side, main use for tv is tv first (news and baseball get majority of time). I also enjoy console gaming and movies (least amount of use on movies).

Couch is roughly 12 feet back.

For 5k and below, what would you go with make/model/size?

Appreciate it in advance

If you've got that to spend, id go with a 77" LG C8 OLED. You can find them for $3999 right now. If you love to game, then the newer version has just released in the C9 with HDMI 2.1. However, current hardware on the market cannot take advantage of it at this time, but this would be more future proof once the new XBOX and PS5 release. You would limit yourself to a 65" in this case given the budget. Authorized dealers have them around $3500 but they can be had through other parties for $2800. The 77" version is still around $6500-7000.

I'm sitting in front of a 65" lg c8 now. Fits my den perfectly, great picture. My wall is big enough for a 75"(according to a friend who owns an av installation business.) I chose the smaller tv after talking to a friend who installed a larger tv, and he said it was too big for typical family viewing of sports and movies, and he would've gone with a smaller screen if he could do it over. My couch is about 12' from the screen, and the upgrade was from an old plasma that was 52"'-'55", fwiw.

I really wanted to splurge for a giant screen, but in the end, the huge price difference in the 65" & 75" helped make the decision for me. I've spent the last few weeks getting the tv up to specs for us to watch, and I have yet to have any regrets with the size watching from any angle.

Check out the QLED TVs from Samsung. Close to OLED quality picture without the burn in. I watch a lot of sports so the logos for espn and such stay on screen for hours at a time scare me so I’m leaning towards QLED right now once my new house is finished.

My 75inch Sony X900F is AWESOME.

I sit about 10-11 ft back and I am very happy I didn't go smaller

Update: my friend has much deeper discounts on Sony products. He is selling me them at cost. I can get the A9G for $3200 as an example. My A8F was $3200 a year ago. Wondering if i should go a step down in quality for a bigger tv.

75" Q9FN or 77" C8 OLED

The new 75" Q90R is in your price range ($4000-$4500), but I dont think it's worth the price increase over than Q9FN which can be had under $3k.

Unless of course you need wide viewing angles then the Q90R is a huge improvement over the Q9FN in that regard.
