AEW lands prime-time television deal and WWE has competition
Wrestling is returning to TNT as part of a multi-platform deal with All Elite Wrestling.
The new wrestling company and WarnerMedia announced the agreement Wednesday morning. TNT will air live AEW matches weekly in prime time starting in the fall, as well as streaming them on B/R Live and on pay-per-view. AEW will be presented to advertisers during the WarnerMedia Upfront at the Madison Square Garden Theater on Wednesday.
The deal marks the first time wrestling will appear on TNT since the final “WCW Monday Nitro” on March 26, 2001, and officially puts AEW in competition with WWE for prime-time television ratings.
“Wrestling fans have wanted — and needed — something different, authentic and better for far too long,” Tony Khan, president and CEO of AEW, said in a press release. “AEW is answering the call. AEW is about more than wrestling. It’s about a movement fueled by wrestling fans who have been underserved and perhaps even disappointed by what the industry has produced in recent years.”
AEW was launched in January and has a roster filled with some of wrestling’s top performers, including Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, Cody, the Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson), “Hangman” Page, Brandi Rhodes and SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky)

Their next/first event is $49.99.

I pretty much checked out completely from wrestling after CM Punk left the WWE, and even then I was barely hanging on a thread. Is this AEW thing really any good? These are the same guys who did All In, right?

AEW is going to fail miserably and I can't wait for all the AEW marks/Anti-WWE excuses when it does
Nobody has fricking heard of The Young Bucks or Kenny Omega outside of hardcore wrestling fans yet the AEW marks and anti-WWE stooges act like they are huge names and huge draws
It's so funny to read the pro-AEW/anti-WWE types and how they think AEW is going to be some magical wrestling utopia where everyone will be properly booked 100% without any problems and everyone will be happy and everything will flow perfectly and storylines will be perfectly constructed. And how they think everyone in WWE will jump ship to AEW and all of a sudden be properly used and properly booked.
If AEW was really going to properly use/book all the WWE talent AEW marks think should jump ship to AEW they'd need an 8 hour show and 25 different belts.

No way can the average AEW mark afford that. They all live in their parents basements and either are unemployed or work in fast food.

Some of them are the same.
They've added some transgender wrestlers too, if you're big on social issues. That's one of their things.

Hilarious picture of Jericho there
Just goes to show that I think AEW marks are more anti-WWE than they are pro-AEW
They bitch about how WWE has too many old stars that are past their prime and how they need to give new young talent a shot, and in the same breath talk about how excited they are to see Chris Jericho and Dustin Runnels wrestle at Double or Nothing
They bitch about how WWE doesn't offer health insurance to their wrestlers and excuse AEW for doing the same

Like characters that are transgender or actual transgender wrestlers?

WWE ratings are at an all time low.. the creative is stale, boring, etc, fans are craving something new...i haven' seen alot of AEW's roster but i'm gonna watch

Their wrestler Nyla Rose is an actual transgender
If you have followed AEW and their twitter they are making a huge play for the social justice/PC crowd

Legit transgender.

Yet its still the highest rated show in the 18-49 demographic on cable and sales to live events and PPVs are just fine. Everything is down in cable. AEW isn't all of a sudden going to reverse that trend

fans are craving something new
The vocal minority hardcore marks are craving something new
These AEW marks/anti-WWE types remind me a lot of "hardcore gamers" who were extremely loud and vocal about the Nintendo Wii 10-15 years ago and how it was killing gaming and wasn't hardcore enough for them and only appealed to casuals

Ahh, I’m pretty liberal but don’t care that much about this stuff one way or another. No problem with transgender wrestler or character but it’s also not going to be the reason I watch something.

They have T shirts at Hot Topic that have been selling very well. Their other merchandise sells at a level usually reserved for WWE wrestlers
Their first show, All In, had 11,263 in attendance
Pretty sure they are huge draws already

I haven’t seen one second of AEW but it’s fair to say the WWE brand had become extremely stale. Rather than jump to another promotion I’ve simply stopped watching.

If it resorts back to vulgarity and violence, I'm back in.
It's been since 2000.
