Aside from a wedding ring, it's the one piece of jewelry guys wear

I bought a vintage Wittnauer. It keeps perfect time to be fifty years old. I need a watch mechanic to set the calendar. I took it to a guy the other day and he couldn't do it so I have to find somebody else. It's worth probably a couple of thousand in this condition and it looks good. It's a decent watch that didn't break the bank to acquire.

Hey Obtuse, do you mind posting your username on TRF and/or WUS?

Ok. I’m going to let you in on a secret: we wear them because no matter what small country you find yourself in, no matter what kind of jam you are in, you are always carrying 5k on you. That buys you a ticket home or that barn find mustang or whatever. It’s the same reason a keep a wad. Arm insurance.

I don’t care how much it is or who makes it, that looks like a watch a 5 year old would wear. No thanks. That watch is a joke.

Are you talking about the Richard Mille? Not for me either, but as the saying goes: de gustibus non disputandum est matters of taste are not for dispute - which would pretty much apply to this whole thread.
My taste in watches is definitely staid, I enjoy beautifully simplistic, exceptional materials and tolerances as opposed to bling.

That’s true .... but that watch is ugly.

I’m not wearing a watch that someone would kill me over. Seems like an invite to rob me.

What's the point of buying a $300k Lambo? How about a Rolls?
Just because.
Personally I'd rather have an Omega, IWC or Tag.
These are really cool but I'm sure I'd end up killing it.

What service center are yall using around Metairie/New Orleans? Can't remember, but I think Adlers has an in-house service guy
Eta: Just brought it to Adlers. $650 and two to three weeks

I would except it would dox me. That said I haven't posted on any watch forums in several years, the constant exposure to everything new and interesting was simply costing me too much money.

I personally do not like it either and the majority of the watch nerd community would agree with you also. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate it for what goes into one.
RMs are one of those watches for wealthy extroverts, despite the fact people really don't notice watches it is one way (live stone set watches) that people use to ensure people notice the 1/4 million dollars you have on your wrist, for some people conspicuous consumption is part of their job description. For the non-celebrity RMs and their ilk can be something of a guilty pleasure I suppose.
If I had Bill Gate's money I might own a Richard Mille Bubba Watson to sport on casual weekday rounds at Pine Valley or Pebble Beach while we are playing for $100,000 skins. They would probably still give me shite about how ugly it was but if I had Gate's money I just wouldn't care.

I’ve had mine for almost 33 years. It’s the only watch I’ve worn during that time and still wearing it.

I have a GMT BLNR. Bought it for 9, goes for about 15 online now. But if you’re buying watches for an investment you are out of your mind. Unless you have a great relationship with an AD who will sell you stainless professional/sport watches (Rolex, AP, Patek, etc.) and you can flip them immediately.

Women pass down jewelry to their daughters. Men pass down watches to their sons. It’s an heirloom

My inherited 30s vintage Rolex is in the safe. My Timex indiglo is on my wrist. My favorites are dad's 2 Hamilton pocket watches that he used during WW2.
