That's not how restricted stock awards work. You either pay taxes on them the year they're granted, or you pay taxes on them the year they vest. You're not required to actually sell them, but paying the taxes on $380MM is tough to do without selling a sizable amount. You don't typically have $60MM+ just hanging around in cash.

You can bitch about Obama or support him, I don't care. But to this day, I haven't really figured out how he got re-elected in 2012 when the US was arguably still in the Great Recession.

1) It was better relative to 2008.
2) Obama had a great ground game.

That's like saying a single beam is better than a burnt down house. There was really nowhere to go but up.

Having 99% of the media in his pocket didn't hurt. I've never seen the press so one-sided for a politician in my entire life.

The lawyers I work with make more than his base salary. Pretty sure their stock options aren’t worth quite what his are, but his base salary isn’t too out of line with other professionals.

Also, his stocks are just money on paper. Wouldn’t he have to sell them to realize that money? Not like he’s pocketing the millions every year. That money could disappear as fast as Enron execs’ if there’s an issue.

He sold $470M worth of vested stocks in 2018 per SEC filings. Don't even compare his wealth to some lawyer on Poydras making $1-2M per year just because that happens to be more than Sundar's base salary ($650K). It's not even in the same league.

Plus his low base salary was set to get around the pre TCJA 162(m) limitation. Doesn’t matter now after tax reform (though possible these would qualify for the grandfathering clause in the new law)

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median income for a full-time wage or salary worker was $900 as of the fourth quarter of 2018. That's $22.50 per hour.

That's better than I would've guessed.
