Another non-operator telling the operators how much they work.
don't know y'all baws exact schedule, don't care, what I said I meant in general, I see baws in my line of work chasing the bucks around and missing out on their family life, it's tempting, and it's a hell of a lot more than $200k, but quality of life is where it's at, imo

I'm assuming you know this because they bragged about how much their homes cost?
It’s not that hard to afford a 400k home with 125-165k a year and likely a wife that also works.
I’m a 3-year operator and I’ve already saved 100k for a down payment for when I’m ready to buy.
Just not sure if I want to stay in Louisiana or bolt to Houston.

Exhibit #2431:
Not pertinent to the dialog/exchange, yet you put it in there for what reason exactly?
(That's rhetorical)
ETA: do the plant operators truly feel the working conditions (onsite plant) are healthy? seriously, do you feel a 20+ year stint working adjacent to various chemicals (and their processing) is not without ramifications?
(again, rhetorical)

I say it to spark your jealousy. It’s really THAT easy.
Just set the bait and cast.
The chemicals I work with are water, natural gas and steam. I think I’ll be alright.

Not really jealous. I make substantially more than you.
So, what other substances are present on site? You do know that matters?

but probably not best and highest use of your money, what's left of it after taxes, living expenses and house note, car note, camp note, travel trailer note....
affording it is not the accurate term

One of the biggest no-brainers in the history of mankind.
All you have to do is read this board for a short time, and see all the posts by baws in their 30s, 40s, and older who say they wish they’d left Louisiana when they were younger and had the chance, but are now stuck due to aging family members, kids in school and other crap.
Having lived both in and out of La. myself, go while you have the chance.. especially since you have money saved up.. it’ll likely be the best decision you ever make.

Doubt that. You wouldn’t be so emotionally attached to this thread if you did.

Not emotional
but really, I do
but really, I do

Hey, look.
If you are a good father/husband/citizen and humble about your youthful success, I truly applaud you and am happy you are doing well.
I mean that.

Serious questions: why do plant operators gravitate to 250-2500 series trucks? Is it to carry materials to work? Is it to tow your giant speed boat/camper? Is it is get ground clearance for huge nuts? Why would a 150-1500 series not suffice (Raptor excluded)?
Why are you bringing up plant operators in response to a post and a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with the matter.
So, why do plant operators make you emotional?

You're using the wrong term.
It is, "affinancing."
(And I don't have a dog in this fight. I want to see everybody succeed and make their way, or almost everybody.)

but I do have a family member who is an operator and he's constantly missing weekend visits, holidays, etc
I always claim I am working for family events I don't want to go to. It's an easy out.
I do think some people over-estimate how much some people work to hit 175k.

Because, interestingly enough, the threads correlate.
Since we're on the topic, what truck do you drive?

It's easy to do when you work 2000 hours of overtime a year
