In operations you are paid for when shite hits the fan. If the guys are kicked back the unit is running and the company is making money.
We monitor equipment catch samples most of the time . But when a pump blows a seal or a gasket blows out in a line you better know what's in the line , where it comes from and goes and how to stop it .. there are people that live right outside the fence and we all know chain link fence doesn't protect the community.

If someone could figure out how to create a megathread combining plant baws / money / personal happiness via marriage, lack of marriage, kids or lack of kids, that thread may be the ultimate all-time OT. With of course, plenty of insults to people about their education level and general "class."
meh, see threads like this in the quad all day long

That about sums it up. I always though that the better supervisors agreed with that concept. I am retired from one of the major industries near Interstate 10 in SWLA.
I topped out at 80K with a limited amount of overtime shifts. Pleased to be able to draw a traditional pension.

This was my buddy. Graduated SLU in Kinesiology and went to PTEC school. Now he makes fun of me for making mid 20s. What he doesn't realize is I was in supervision in the electrical field in the plants (contractor.) I got out because I didn't want to be around the harsh chemicals anymore and I landed a job with great benefits. So I'm happy, he's happy, have a great days fellas.

But with that wealth, for many, came an air of arrogance and chip on the shoulder toward the educated world. Seen it many times in the professional setting. Many of these guys(almost all males if over the age of 50) come in for professional advice and proceed to try to convice me how wise they are and show their wife how they have been a brillant provider and financial manager & how they could solve the world's problems. No formal education, just lots of exposure to media. And the arrogance is often overbearing.
I agree since I've experienced this first hand. These guys have put in the work for years so these O&G companies will bring them in as support sometimes. I've realized that no matter what you say, they'll have their own biased opinion about you. My advice is just soak up any knowledge they give you and roll with it. No point in trying to make them see things your way when they lived in different times.
