Did this 1st round feel weak?

Maybe it's because we didn't have a pick, but it felt like in general the 1st round draft was weaker than normal.
Whether it was trades or the players, it felt like the value was "less" like Most of these guys are 2nd or 3rd rounds in a normal year. Even the trades didn't have overwhelming value like previous years.

I think our scouts identified this a year early and saw it coming. I thought it when we made the trade last year.

No. It’s just that it was dominated by guys who play o line/ front 7. There weren’t a bunch of huge name skilled guys or huge qb names.

More than half the round was OL/DL, which fans don’t really know about, with 2 TE.
Only two WR and one RB, which fans usually focus on.

I mean OL and DL I pay attention to and even a few OL guys had more flaws than normal. Atlanta's for example were 2nd-3rd round quality guys.
Tytus Howard was compared to a small school project like Terron armstead. A lot of risk for a 1st round guy

Felt weak to me especially the 2nd half of first round.
Alot of bad picks
Could have been some steals at the end of the first round that didn't happen.
Also it's not because of the 2 tight ends cause they are both ballers and elite receivers

Oh how do u know?

I believe the comparison was a hindsight reference to the Terron armstead who is one of the best LT in nfl. Not what was expected when Armstead was drafted

Obviously we won't know until it pans out, but Atlanta fans are melting and already posting links showing/saying mcgary was a '2nd' round guy.
Even the trades seem devalued compared to previous years.
Green Bay for example moved up from 30 to 21 with 2 4th rounders. It's a gain of '100 points' using the value chart. That more often than not lends to be a loss for the team trading up

Seemed like a combination of:
1. Less overall star power
2. A lot of lineman being taken
3. Saints not having a 1st round pick
For some reason I’m not too bummed that we didn’t have a pick at the end of the first as the whole round was a bit of a dud. A coveted O-Lineman would have been great, but Saints trading back would have been just as likely this year I’m sure..

You never really know how things will play out, but I look at two things:
1) The value of return for draft picks this year seems lower than normal.
2) The comparisons of players to other years seems weaker for the most part. There was no group of four or five highly rated QBs. There was no S. Barkley, Gurley or Zeke Elliot, there was no Calvin Ridley, Corey Davis or Mike Williams. The tackle class is mostly RTs although there was a good group of guards this year. The DE and OLBers are comparable to other years like Chubb, Garrett and R. Smith. DT was an okay group. CB and S was much weaker than we usually see. I don’t think these guys will be busts, there just seems to be a bunch of guys and few if any superstars.
Also, next year is full of QBs which drives the market rate of draft picks.

Exhibit C (which flows from the others):
When in doubt, take linemen. This has to he one of the highest years over the last 20 or so in terms of the number of linemen taken.
That stems from a clear lack of impact players at other positions.
CB is one of the top 4 coveted positions, and the first one didn't go until 30. 2 WRs, and none until the 20s, shows the lack of impact there. 1 or 2 safties, and not until near the 20s. No HBs until the 20s.
You could say that means the linemen were just better, but usually when there is a run on a position teams start taking top talent elsewhere. That didn't happen much until the 20s, and still not often.
That points to a clear weak class at the top of most positions.
And even then I'd say Davenport will be better than all but maybe 1 or 2 dlinemen from this draft.
Then there is the fact that there was 1 trade at the top this year (and not until 10th). That shows a clear lack of top players being coveted by other teams.
All the trades were back end maneuvering outside of the Pitt trade.

The most meh 1st round I've ever seen. It'll be some third or so rounders like a Kamara that blow things up in the league.

I remember when this board was melting after we drafted Ram, and that turned out well. As much as I hope Atlantas pick is a dud, melting fans dont mean shite in all honesty
