Agree.

From what I've gathered in the past from comments by just about everybody, CPM is really cautious with pitchers.

This is a double-edged sword. On one hand players and parents trust how he handles them and know that he won't overwork them so they're more likely to join LSU instead of a competing program. On the other hand, it drives the fans crazy and can cause some questionable pitching decisions and possibly reduce your chances to win games.

Assuming that having this many pitchers out is normal on a national level, why are parents even letting their kids pitch at all before puberty?

LSU has 2 pitchers out
2

& we don’t even know if Henry is injured, he is still throwing, just not with the team in Bama

So if we look at the two pitchers unavailable due to “injuries” sustained at LSU (we’ll just say henry is injured even though he will throw this weekend) what’s the difference between them and the rest of the staff?

Dunn obviously intentionally tortures those two. Have heard he put Henry in one of those torture chambers that stretch people’s limbs from a sauce of mine

Have you watched their pre-game stretch routine? The horror

But the coach is the face and head of the team. It all starts from the top and reflects positively or poorly depending on their decision making.

Honestly, I think it is a combination of everything.

Ben and whoever else was announcing talk about the rash of pitching inquires in the SEC this year. Didn't hear the entire conversation, maybe someone else can comment.
it was chris burke. he and ben both said there is no one reason why it's happening across the league. in their words, no one has put a finger on it which means it's mystifying everyone. this is definitely not an lsu issue.

ben said one difference is that with people specializing in pitching, they are throwing max effort on every pitch younger and younger. he said in the past, getting 2 groundouts and a popup was good enough. now you have to blow hitters away with high velocity and tons of movement. it's definitely an interesting phenomenon.

This is definitely a big issue.

This reminds me of the way Skip would describe the lack of speed that Trey McClure was not blessed with back in the day.

So 200+ colleges, times 15 years (travel ball sydrome) is roughly 3000.

Only one other example out of 3000?

That's why I think it's not as normal as I'm being told.

Here's what I don't think many people understand. LSU has one of the largest media followings of any college baseball programs. Outside of the SEC and a few schools here and there, college baseball is a non-factor in the athletics department. CPM gives his report of hurt players every week because the media is asking him about it, and we care about who will play and who won't.

Other programs don't do that.

Not only do their fans not really care, but this is not mandatory like it is in professional sports. I have a buddy of mine who works for another SEC baseball team and he told us that they were game planning around a certain pitcher for that week, until CPM told the media he would be out. Then they were able to rewrite the script. He told me that they took advantage of the fact that LSU actually reports this news while others do not.

All this to say, people aren't giving you a detailed list because it literally does not exist. Other programs do not report all of their injuries to the media, and therefore there is no database with this information readily available.

But, you'll probably think of another dumbarse response to this and keep on trollin' the board.

To a certain extent I wish we weren’t so open about our injuries for this reason

The amount of coverage is pretty crazy. Dedicated beat writers from 2 daily newspapers (Advocate, Times-Pic), beat writer from LSU focused paper (Tiger Rag), plus sometimes even Guilbeau covering for Gannett. Then you have what 3 local Baton Rouge TV channels? Plus the radio guys. Then other online publications.

Some SEC schools don't even have a coach's radio show.

We have media availability with 15 reporters hanging out outside of a bus landing.

ETA: Which I like as a big LSU baseball fan.

During the ULL game, I was getting upset that Moran or Alexander weren't giving out-by-out updates, and were settling for inning-by-inning updates. I had to take a step back and realize it was a midweek non-conference college baseball game and not the Super Bowl. Oh, how we have been spoiled.

We have the most caring and best fan base in the country and IMO it’s not close.

Even the fact that we are here on a super active forum specifically for our sports programs with admins and actual news that can get pinned, and opinions can spread, is crazy and one of the first college sports teams to do it. Definitely the most well known single college forum IMO

I think you can consider Labas to have been hurt while at LSU.

He may have had some issues coming in but he still pitched most of last season before going down

So that’s 3 pitchers which sucks because all of them are pretty big time arms but it’s not exactly abnormal
