I have been wondering this:

Lets say you get Tatum and Smart. I think we have all assumed that makes Jrue and Smart the backcourt and Tatum the 3

What if Jrue is the 2, Smart plays and defends 3's and Tatum is the small ball 4 - and you go get a point guard. He would need to shoot well and create a bit, so Payton is out. But how about someone like Malcolm Brogdon or even Darren Collison

Would that be too small or would that cause chaos and have more pros than cons?

I agree with the post above that he most likely would want a high caliber PG to take some pressure off of him and also elite or above average defensive players so he doesnt have to give 150% and more every night just to lose by 2 points.

Then we are kind of where we were with a better version of Etwaun Moore guarding 3s.

I want a goddamn player with SF size guarding SFs for a change.

Seems weird of you to ask if a line up of a point guard, Smart, Jrue, and Tatum would be too small. We just had a whole season of Moore playing the 3 and it wasn't pretty on the defensive end.

Also, why would Payton automatically be out? Are his shooting mechanics impossible to improve upon?

I think that a great plan in the new NBA space is needed if the boston trade happens jrue can guard almost any 4 get a PG who can create and shoot and a big who can play his role defend the rim set screens and rebound... brogdon and deandre jordan id be good with

I gotta agree with funbunch on this one. Please get a sf with some size, preferbly 6ft 8 range. Playing smart at the 3 reminds too much of moore at the 3. While i agree smart is better than moore, id still rather not see it.

I would put Smart at PG, give us the best defensive backcourt in possibly ever..

I think Jrue would like to have a team around him of guys that play hard on both ends of the court, even if they aren't the best defenders, they at least put in the hustle and effort...

I like the idea of Tatum as a small ball 4, and use one of the picks we recieve to get a legit 3 (I believe Phoenix would be willing to move Warren with them loving Oubre)

Sign a big that hustles and plays hard

Smart/Payton
Jrue/Moore
Warren/Kenny
Tatum/Randle
R Lopez/Okafor

In the playoffs, you would substitute Lopez for Randle

I think that 3 guard lineup works with brogdon because of his size/length and shooting. I do think if you have Tatum at the 4, Jrue would need a very good to elite rebounding rim protector, but then that messes with spacing considering Jrue/Smart’s unreliable perimeter shot.

Brogdon
Jrue
Smart
Tatum
Ed Davis

But I think trying to fit Smart is unnecessary. Why play so small just to get Smart in the lineup. I do think a Brogdon/Jrue combo could be potent, but I’d rather move Smart and get a versatile 3/4 tweeter (Aaron Gordon being my favorite).

Brogdon is super slept on for some reason. I’d really like him here. Hard to see him leaving MIL, but he would be a good fit.
