Because you benefited from being in an offside position on a ball that came from your teammate.

Unfortunately for us, next year the rule goes into effect

I feel like City say this every year (rightfully so)

Lol, what? Folks don't create rules just for shits and giggles. There's rationale behind them.

I'm trying to understand why this is offside.

GTFO with your nonsense

If that goal counted though, Eriksen should have been burned alive

I agree Aguero/City benefited from the deflection but can one really say it "came" from Silva?

No dog in this hunt, just curious why something like this was deemed offside when the rules were written.

Thanks for helping

I got flashbacks of Michael Bradley against Portugal right when he lost the ball.

Since the ball last touched Silva, how the hell did it not come from him?

I think people are confusing intent here. It isn’t like offsides if a ball comes off of a defender. That can be given onside if the ref decides the defender attempted to play the ball and hoofs it.

In this case the law says ‘touched or played by a teammate’ so there really is no argument.

I always think of offside in terms of a pass to someone, with intent, not a deflection.

Just feels off if I'm standing there, I don't move, someone kicks it off of me, and it goes to my teammate who's offside and it's called such. I didn't move, it was a bad pass by the other team.

Just saying, it feels weird to me that's all

Yeah, the rule is clear, I was just wondering the why.

A nuanced thing I guess

If it didn’t happen this year City will never win the UCL. It was never going to set up better than this. Hopefully those UCL dicks can give them a non Prem or Barcelona to play against in a knockout at some point.

Welp, I just finished the game. I got fricked over at work today, and actually had to work. It took all of my might to wait until I got home, and not just look at the final score. That was the most ridiculous thing I’ve watched in some time.

I feel like talking shite, but it appears SCH has talked enough for the both of us.
So instead, I’ll just say what a fricking game that was to watch, and that I feel very fortunate and thankful that Spurs are through.

Oh, and watching Señor Llorente “run” around on the pitch reminds me of watching Jason Giambi run bases. But god bless you Saint Llorente.
