You mean we won our independence because of one French man, the Marquis de Lafayette who commanded American forces.

Ya, the french were hardasses at one point.
The battle of Dunkirk would've tested the metal of any American baw.

Uh. I think you're leaving out a pretty large part of the history of Napoleon to fit your narrative. Remember the whole getting his arse kicked and losing Paris before being exiled thing?

Probably had something to do with the fact that the cathedral is twice the age of the oldest inhabited structures in the United States.

Probably 600k loses or better at that point?

The French have had arguably the best army in Europe for the vast majority of the existence of the United States, going back to before Jamestown.

Exactly.
Two cowards downvoted me, but they can't answer my question.

Paraphrasing, but that's what was said.
I'm open to suggestions if someone can explain how to put out a fire.

I always wondered how our fighting spirit would've been if we faced the casualties that France faced during ww1. The only thing they lacked in morale was machinegunners pointing their barrells at.

The French have basically only ever won but one war.
The French Revolution. Then again both sides were French

You act like there isn’t any validity to their stated reason for not using air tankers. The French were concerned that massive amounts of water would further the damage or cause the weakened structure to collapse.
Given that it is one of the most historically and culturally important buildings in France, and that survival of the structure itself was paramount to putting the flames out..... it’s really not an unreasonable response.

It is extremely common, and sometimes mandated by safety codes for very old historic structures to be reto-fitted with sprinkler systems, and other systems tyupes of fire protection for the safety of the public, and the protection of the building. There is nothing about this building that would have prevented that, it could have easily been down without intruding on the beauty of the building.

I am not buying the whole "The French are cowards" thing. That is just stupid. But seriously, how does something like this happen. It is probably their single most important structure, apart maybe from the Eiffel Tower. It is under renovation. How are they not planning for this and being super vigilant. This isn't cowardice, but it does appear to be gross incompetence.

They have Foreign Legions to do their dirty work.

How a building with such historical significance did not have a Halotron 1 system of some kind installed is beyond me. Complete failure by the French.
I would say they should be ashamed but they have no shame.

1914 America would never had put up with those kinds of numbers over a sustained amount of years like the French did, we were an entirely different people then. Of course our situation was very different than France’s as well.
But for our part, our casualty rate in the First World War was not appreciably lower than any of the other major combatants. We just weren’t in the war as long.
