Well, Jackass, your post was worded in such a way to paint Napoleon as infallible and indicative of French culture overall which couldn't be any less true. The failures of Napoleon more closely resemble that of the arrogant, sometimes cowardice, nature of the French people as a whole.
Your didn't even post to specifics of French Military history at all in your post, and yet after I did, vaguely but not inaccurately, you're questioning my understanding? You again did not post specifics to support your argument, rather opting to speak in your own vague platitudes while parroting an opinion we all learned in 6th grade social studies in regards to Napoleon's military tactics.

Cowards? Read about Dien bien Phu. Heavily outnumbered and slaughtered Viet Minh until they couldn't fight anymore. They were screwed over by their leadership.

Or even a more recent example: Algeria. They absolutely decimated the enemy and were probably the closest to actually winning a brutal counter-insurgency as any major Western power has ever been post WW2.
The paras and many of the officers of that time were some of the hardest men around - many had fought with the Allies in WW2 (actually, as had many of the insurgents they were fighting), in Vietnam, and then again in Algeria.

You are talking about a country that surrendered to Germany at the beginning of WW2 because they didn’t want Paris to be destroyed. As to why they weren’t putting much effort into stopping the blaze, it sounds like they were more concerned about saving artifacts before attempting to fight the fire. If I was a betting man, I’d say they didn’t want the full force of the Paris FD raining down millions of gallons of water on the structure before they had a chance to save the art and other treasures. I know that’s backwards thinking but that’s the way the French are. They’d have much rather had the building burn to the ground and save irreplaceable pieces art than to save the building at the expense of the art.

While I agree that the Modern Day French do appear to resemble most of the descriptions here, we cannot forget that it was the French that stopped the initial Muslim Invasion of Europe.
Question is, where will they stand now? Can they find another Charles Martel?
